My personal opinion is that ideally applying for citizenship should be something similar to getting your drivers license, tho somewhat, more difficult. I would hope the process would force people to become more politically literate and it would encourage a shared sense of social responsibility.

I certainly understand those very real issues and concerns. I'd argue that at the very least the citizenship test we have now is something most Americans would benefit from taking. Despite the crazy political landscape, I suppose I'm somewhat of an optimist here as that measurement for citizenship has remained relatively untouched the past few presidencies. It's not perfect, but I like the idea and that is why we need to vote moral people into office who have people's interests at heart.
