I scrutinize their their grocery store baskets to see how much corn syrup and ultra bleached flour they buy so I can inform them of a better way.   They are not healthy people.

so what moral/ethical leg does she have to stand on regarding fan fiction?

fan fiction and fan art steal from artists in the way she thinks ai does, it's using their property without permission, and in ways that those property holders probably wouldn't approve of

it only persists because either they don't know about it, or they realize it would be a PR nightmare to go after individual 13-year-olds doodling sonic

you're not allowed to write stories about lucio, that's flat out copyright infringement

conversely, ai only creates infringing works if the user chooses to ask for them ("make a pic of batman french kissing shrek"), non-infringing uses of ai are far more legally defensible than fan fiction

I am generally a happy, easy-going person and can handle adversity with ease in most situations.

Honestly, the big thing I love about Tom is that he actually WOULD probably like to help. He's just also so fucking old that his concept of time is completely different from even Gandalf's, and his understanding of the relationship of events to each other is poisoned by that concept of time. He would take the ring and just completely lose track of it for centuries because he simply does not exist on a scale of time trackable by mortals. He'd put it down on a shelf for safekeeping and then it'd be 200 years later and he'd forget where it was. And by that point someone would've else would've visited, been tempted, and likely stolen it, and he wouldn't realize until it was too late.

I was so inspired by that kind of character that the "immortals" of my setting were based heavily on him. They all have these really striking and distinct personalities but they all exist on the bow of eternity and simply CANNOT involve themselves in the affairs of individual mortals for long because their lifespans are incalculable and their perception of "a few minutes" is reflected in years by mortal perception. The most "involved" of them can only accomplish that by transubstantiating himself into mortal bodies with finite lifespans that he can only maintain for certain lengths of time and that significantly limit his powers, and even then, he sometimes gets distracted for long stretches of time and alienates his allies because of it.

non-commercial uses of fanmade things can still impact the profits of the original creators, for example by giving potential audiences a similar experience for free, when they otherwise might've paid for an official product

imagine you make fan art of iron man and print your own posters of it, and you go to wal-mart and sit next to the poster section, every time someone goes to buy an iron man poster you hand them one of yours for free

that's technically non-commercial but it harms their profits (however sleight)
