Tears of the Kingdom has really kicked off a sales Renaissance for the Switch in Japan

System  | This Week | Last Week | Last Year
NSW #   |    86.524    |    86.645    |    60.877

TotK is up to 1.5 million physical alone with a very high digital rate apparently.

PS5 seems to have found a reasonable foothold as well with a consistent 35-40k per week.

PS5 software isn't selling though, at least not physical

Top 30
NSW - 29
PS4 - 1

Jesus.  lol

I'm pretty sure PS5 has a significantly higher digital rate, but still, you're right.

Hard to sell software when there isn't any being released.

It's weird, you usually see older games chart again as hardware sales increase.
On the Switch, whenever it does well Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. creep back up, in the west on other platforms it's always GTA.

You'd think that something like FF7 Remake or Tales of Arise would start selling again.
Maybe they're just playing their PS4 games at higher framerates?

7 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
8 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Crazy to see the effect it has on Breath of the Wild sales too.

Digital is so easy in Japan. Every major release gets a promotion for digital sales through convenience stores. Lawson even has a lottery for exclusive Zelda physical collectibles. One of my friends won the sword.

It really is an unbelievable situation. I know the external conditions are unique, but the job Nintendo itself has done has been remarkable.

Third party support has been better than previous generations, but there have been some serious omissions for the biggest games of the generation - CoD and GTA5 for example.

The biggest question now is whether they can stick the transition to a new generation or if they fuck it up like the WiiU.

They’re going to fuck it up like an odd numbered Star Trek movie.

I wonder if Pikmin 4 can outsell it. Nintendo is pushing Pikmin far more than I thought.

I wonder if the people buying in year 7 are the same people who were all like, "Switch is underpowered hardware. I'm waiting for a price cut"?

It's probably a mix of people upgrading their aged OG Switch to the OLED Model (I've considered this too) and folks picking up Switches who hadn't before to play bangers like Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8.

It also helps that at this point the library is massive and most games can be found cheap.
Nintendo saying that a new Switch wasn't in the cards yet probably also helped to sell a few more units to folks waiting.

Sony is getting desperate to move PS5's as supply now far exceeds demand €75 temporary price cut for the PS5 in the Netherlands this month.

Yep, I think demand is slowing down significantly now that they are generally available and there are no games coming out.

Nobody asked for a PS4 Pro Pro, but that's what it seems they got.

That's only a 25 euro cut. They increased the price to 550 last year.

Stranger still is that Microsoft is going to increase the price of the Xbox Series X to € 549,99 next month.

So we're looking at:

Switch Lite (200)
Switch (270 - 370) depending on the model
Xbox Series S (299) although often as low as 199 on discount
Xbox Series S 1TB (349) should've been a limited Starfield themed edition, like Nintendo did for TOTK
PS5 Slim (399)
PS5 - EOL? (~475)
PS5 DE - EOL? (~449)
Xbox Series X (550)

I miss when console prices actually went down and you could get them for £150, even £99, after a few years.

Yeah, I got my PS5 for 180 aud under RRP but still kinda felt like a rip. I was surprised when I saw the the series x basically has never gone on sale for a decent discount.

Pikmin 4 sold 400k at launch in Japan.

Instantly outselling the debut of all previous Pikmin games and the recently released Final Fantasy XVI.

Nintendo sales are insane. Aboslutely bonkers

TOTK already sold 18.5 million copies. BOTW just passed 30 million copies.

Meanwhile Square Enix cratered.
