It is difficult to create a community.

You can build a website and write a mission statement, but these things are only structural. It takes interest, passion, and participation from users to turn an inanimate website into a living thing. It will take the effort of every member here to turn our burgeoning congregation into the true community we are looking for. No moderator or administrator can be responsible for that – this is a responsibility every user shares. It is rare so many people have the opportunity to start something new together. If we are going to be successful, we must believe in what we are doing.

Many of us have come from someplace else and have nowhere else to go. We must be humble and mindful of this fact. As we adapt and recreate the homes we’ve lost, we must be conscious and leave certain things behind. We must shape them in a more perfect vision. If we aim to create someplace respectable and dignified, we must individually uphold those values. While first and foremost this is a hobby forum, it also aims to be much more than that for hundreds of its members. This is our pocket world. It’s our place to go. We are all each other’s neighbors and must treat each other as such.

There is no place else on the internet like what we are trying to build. We must take it seriously.

As you post and get acclimated with our new forum, channel your energy into reconstruction. Do not fall victim to petty arguments, do not capitalize on every opportunity to be negative, and remember that everyone here is a refugee. Seek positive conversation. Remove your ironic veil and speak honestly. Post thoughtfully and thoroughly and remember everything you contribute is a building block. Do not let our menagerie collapse under the same heavy-handed negativity that defines other forums we find distasteful.

Having the bug agent smith implants be a parallel to internalised transphobia placed deep within us by society, that ultimately needs to be confronted and thrown aside before we're ready to start transition remains one of my favourite subtle elements.

There is absolutely none of that in the original movie. That's a massive stretch. I have no doubt that there are lots of themes of transformation and changing to be who you really are. But the tracking bug being internalized transphobia is absurd.

Overall I agree with most people that this was a very poorly excecuted, terrible movie. Bad action, cheap looking sets, weak dialogue. Really dumb story decisions.

The *extreme* smugness of the way its been mocked since announcement was seemingly just because the protagonist was a freaky little guy instead of a sexy white person like basically every other game above a certain budget, so its such a shame that the technical state of the release has retroactively justified the critique.

A game like this has so much going against it in the first place. Nobody should buy it in this state, but I think it deserves slightly more sympathy that the disastrous launches of Halo or Star Wars or whatever.

Okay so hear me out. I was taking a shower in November during my Pokémon Violet binge and I noticed something incredible.

When I wipe my hand up my forehead and into my hairline, a sound effect activates between my skin and hair that sounds EXACTLY like the shaking of a Pokéball before escaping or before the final click to signify a caught Pokémon.

Since then on my daily morning showers I look forward to that effect, and even follow up 3 of them with a click and then giggle to myself.

I just find the concept of depictions of real people in a video game weird.

It must be bizarre for the computer people in these games to see that, but they don't seem to care. I guess the idea is that they'd look at that like we look at CG or animated depictions of people. But as a real person, it's weird to play a game presenting a CG world, with real people in it. Like...how does that make sense? How do you explain it? How do the characters in this world know what real people look like? Where did they get these photos from? Is Yakuza a parallel dimension to ours? You can travel between them? Who has this technology? Why are they using it to put photos of real porn stars on a wall in a video game?

They should put some kind of filter on those photos to make them look like they belong in a CG world.
Otherwise my brain just starts dipping down that rabbit hole.

I did this in 2011 after nearly 6 years of being treated so poorly at Kroger (I stayed because of the benefits). That environment was all about management bullying staff and in some cases doing it in-front of customers. So, one day I snapped, got on the intercom and said (I shit-you not), "I'm a wild turkey!" and proceeded to make a ton of gobbling noises. I walked out and flipped off my Supervisor while walking past them, as she was the one trying to mess with me in-front of customers. I'm actually a pagan who follows the Greek pantheon! And I LOVE all of the POC representation in the game, and the way their personalities are written. And you can still tell the writers did tons of research.

Because right now, and I'm aware this isn't something a lot of people want to hear, but our staff team is wearing thin. Most of us are exhausted, mentally, emotionally, simply because this job, in essence just is. We are often confronted to the worse this forum has to offer, on a daily basis, and it takes a toll on us all sooner or later. I remember someone in a post mentioning the fact that we have to take the higher ground and be willing to take any kind of criticism at all times, and that's generally the mindset I'm coming from indeed. However, that also generally leaves me drained, with poor mental-health, and needing regular breaks from moderating (or from even interacting with the forum as a whole) just to recenter myself and feel good enough again. This is, in big part, the reason of our staff turn-over. People get burned out doing this, and end up leaving because they couldn't handle it anymore. This is how we lost many of our minority mods as well (because the mental and emotional toll on us is very often THAT much bigger than for the rest of the team), who often are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to replace. I myself have already thought about quitting the staff team half a dozen times in less than a year already. The apparently common sentiment that mods are easily recruited, and that they easily agree to become staff, and dedicate their time and energy to this forum, is sadly far from our actual reality, and the reason why it makes any single departure that much harder to handle.

I was staff here for eighteen months. In that time I had to try to become an expert on criminal cases with no clear conclusions, on controversies in every industry, on cultural expectations across different continents, on major historical events I'd not heard of previously, on personalities I didn't follow, and on geopolitical conflicts nobody has ever solved. You're criticized for not being fast enough, or people misrepresent the actions you took and why, and you will always be the bad guy no matter what.

People have this image of free-wheeling or rogue moderators who just moderate in accordance of their opinions. But I had to get so far in to complex situations and process so much information and perspective that I don't even have my own opinion on some things anymore.
