No matter how many quotations marks and clarifications, you don’t get relevant results. Let alone useful information.
I think part of this is due to how good informative websites made by obsessed fans just for the joy of it have been dropping like flies and/or hidden due to bad SEO
some guy made "mike's page of north american songbirds" 20 years ago but he never put up ads so google had no reason to funnel people to his site, which wasn't heavily trafficked anyway, and now he's dead and his family have no interest and no idea in sustaining that little website full of great information
now you end up on some ad-infested hellhole that just copied all its info from wikipedia anyway

There's also been a bunch of legal bullshittery (eg the FairSearch cuntopoly) where various parasitic businesses whose entire business plan was 'be a middleman website and get a cut off of directing people to the websites actually providing the thing people are actually looking for' that have endlessly manipulated SEO, lobbied governments and complained they dont show up in searches as early as they think they should (ie before the sites their revenue stream consists of directing other people to for a cut).

my favorite is how they tease you with certain options these days.
One day, results look this
Quote:Missing: songbirds | Show results with: songbirds
The next day, results look like this.
Quote:Missing: songbirds
Ok...and on the third day???
Quote:Missing: songbirds | Show results with: songbirds

Their deal with Reddit is the icing on the shitcake.
Especially because clicking a reddit link also opens the app.
So you click a link in Google and Reddit first opens what you were last looking at on Reddit at 2AM
EU nonsense also made it less useful. Maps and Google Search are no longer integrated because of EU regulations.
It's going to get worse though. Had a call with Google this week and their guy told me they are removing Enhanced CPCs as a bidding strategy and their recommendation is to set it to Maximum Clicks instead. Which means that we'll see a lot more ads.

New kindle models, including a colour screen model.
I refuse to update until they bring physical page turn buttons back.
Oh man, I didn’t realise they’d killed off the Oasis. Used ones are over £400 on Amazon
I’m interested to see the colour one in action, but the only time I’d see colour is on the lock screen and when browsing my library. An iPad is a better option for comics.

not sure that's a good thing
it might be more beneficial for the tech overall if trump just didn't fucking think about it ever and let things keep trucking along as they are
a) if he crows about it he makes it something dems must knee jerk oppose at all costs including even casual individuals, "if trump likes AI then I hate it"
b) makes it more likely it would be something undone in the next presidency, with a new law or executive order possibly even worse than biden's measured order
c) if he's got his eye on it he's more likely to fuck with it, someone makes an anti trump deepfake meme and now he's frothing and demanding tough laws on AI misuse
It's definitely not a good thing.
I don’t think Kamala would’ve done anything different for AI.

A Harris administration would have brought on tech savy people to determine AI regulations.
trump is probably gonna get fsd to write regulations.
Kamala was just saying anything she thought would get her elected.

Currently sat behind someone on the bus wearing those super expensive over the ear Apple headphones. They are leaking sound like a pair of cheap earbuds.
Is noise pollution a feature for Apple users?

The new experimental Gemini model released today has topped the vision capability leaderboards:

It could have been better if it explained that it was unlikely that an eel can steal the lasagna because...it's an eel. But, still good.

My mobo has both TPM2.0 and XMP RAM and I never turned either on in the BIOS before today.
Also, for some reason this now causes the BIOS to display on the right-most monitor no matter what default monitor is set in it. I'm not sure how it knows this, surely Windows doesn't write the monitor alignment to UEFI does it?
Coming back from the gym, I left my AirPod pros in as I did some housework and such. Had to take a call that paused the music. So I’m wearing them without any music coming through and going about things. Like ten minutes later I realize I’m still wearing them and forgot. All the normal noises I’ve been hearing, sink, vent, footsteps, etc. were through “transparency mode”. Basically a mic records the outside world, filters the audio, and plays it back through the speakers instantaneously so that it feels completely natural.
Apple tried this concept with their VR headset but the tech isn’t there yet. Everything you see is a recording of the world on a display. AirPods are only from 8 years ago and they’re this good. Trying to imagine a decade from now… This is veering into conspiracy theory thread territory.

USB C is neat. I get there’s some vagueness around capabilities of different cords and ports. I had to travel with my gamer-ish laptop and was too lazy to untangle the power brick. Turns out I can use the same charger and cable from my phone and tablet. Limited to 100w rather than the 300w or so needed to frag noobs. But I can get work done instead of pretending an iPad is a serious device.
I'm on Win 11 and some microsoft or xbox game thingy at the top with the mic/rec/live keeps popping up on some Steam games. I've turned the Game Bar off and it still pops up. If I Windows key back to Desktop and then back to the game it disappears. And sometimes it shows up in the top left or right corner. Also it doesn't show up on certain games at all.
It's not a big deal as I can get it to go away but it started happening after a Windows update I think. It probaly set something back to a default setting but I'll be damned if I can find it.

You have broadcasting enabled on Steam.
Open up Steam, go to settings, click on Broadcasting.
Change "Anyone can watch my games" or whatever setting its on to "broadcasting disabled".
Yep you're right I had everything clicked off except "Always show live status" was still on.
I was pretty sure it wasn't a steam thing just because I didn't see it on most of my other games for whatever reason. But it always came up when I played Crusader Kings 2. Thanks. I'm glad I don't have to Windows tab out every time I play it.

I assumed it was that because other Steam stuff will activate Xbox things if you have an Xbox controller and Steam doesn't know if you might want to use it for something. It must be the way Microsoft has the API setup.
