I've researched, scouted, laid out, and prewritten everything for my suicide plan. I have almost exactly a month left to live and am fortunate that I live near several high bridges with railings you can get over and super-high success rates for jumpers. The ironic thing is that I'm finally making great progress in finally building the kind of life I've always dreamed of for decades, but I don't care any more and stuff like this thread and Era in general really helped me commit to ending myself. Yeah, and also, I'm gonna say something crazy here: Men and women are generally different. Some things that are attractive for one are not attractive for the other. Boobs are attractive on women; they are not attractive on men. Huge, square shoulders are attractive on men; they're not attractive on women. This extends beyond just physical traits, as it's true for personality traits as well. Men like Han Solo can act like dicks and still have charisma, which both men and women like. That's a lot harder for women. OTOH, women can act soft even while being assertive, which again is endearing to both men and women; for a man, acting soft often comes off as weak and limp-dicked.

I know it's fashionable to pretend all differences are cultural (which is obviously not true), but even if they are, that's still a description of our current reality. Men and women are different, and women acting like dicks just does not get as much endearment as when it's a charismatic man, and likewise, a soft man doesn't get as much love as a soft woman. People can complain about reality all they want, but that is reality.

re-conceptualizing this game from the ground up, keeping this idea in mind:

the girl should essentially be kaylee from firefly who literally everyone loves. the ship is run by a boisterous, loudmouthed, obnoxious crew, mix of zapp brannigan and guardians of the galaxy. the girl is just the long-suffering, abused janitor, we see her covered in grease stains and performing the sci-fi equivalent of sweeping with a broom. cinderella story.

trailer starts with this crew being all "captains log: we've run into some bad motherfuckers but it's nothing we can't handle," and they're joking and laughing. sweeping girl bumps something, says "oops," gets yelled at, they call her a drag and tell her to get out of the way. we get a whole scene where we THINK these idiots are the Concord protagonists...but then an alien entity beams aboard and vaporizes all of them into a pile of ash. janitor girl who was shunted to the back of the ship narrowly avoids this, and when the alien leaves she's like "ohgodohgod what do I dooo," she runs to the front and starts punching buttons, and takes off into hyperspace, now on her own with her own ship, free to do whatever adventure is demanded of her

or hell, maybe the alien finds her but doesn't kill her because he needs someone to operate the ship for him, and the two slowly manage to bond over the course of the game (the idiot crew he killed were jerks anyway, we find out she was a child slave sold to them, so better off with a murderous alien with a secret heart of gold than them)

It's a little sad that nobody else seems to care about this lovingly created thread. My own non-binary journey has a lot to do with my love of Astro.

This is a brilliant write-up, and while I did not give it much thought while playing the game, you have completely convinced me how important Astro Bot is to the non-binary community. I will also add that it's great to see a main character that is often clumsy, goofy, and of a general "round" shape, which not only makes Astro adorable but also relatable to so many. They are an icon all around, and I am absolutely in love with that fact.

I live in DC and cycling is my hobby so I take long bike rides nearly every morning for cardio. This morning when I was about half way into my ride I took a turn around some park pretty much in the middle of nowhere in Maryland, and came across a truly shocking scene. Only a few feet from me, a vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and a man had a woman in a chokehold from behind trying to pull her into the vehicle while she was screaming like crazy. I was stopped with one foot still clipped into my bike just frozen trying to process what I was seeing.

At first I thought I was witnessing an abduction, but quickly realized it was domestic violence. The guy dragged her by the neck into the car violently while she was screaming, kicking and punching, and she kicked the door back open, and then he slammed it closed. I wasn't sure what to do, so I went around the corner and called the police. I had no idea where I was, but they were able to ping my phone as I described what was going on. About three minutes later I turned around, and went by and they were still there, and about 30 seconds later I came across the police who were driving the wrong way, I flagged them down and pointed them to where to go.

I have no idea what happened afterwards. I hope they locked that POS up, I still can't get over it. I know DV is not uncommon, but that was the most disturbing thing I've ever experienced in my life. Part of me feels like a coward, and I briefly thought of trying to get between them myself before I called the cops, but realistically I'm 41, the guy was prob. half my age, and I can barely walk in my cycling shoes, let alone fight. I'm embarrassed to say that I've been feeling 'off' and numb ever since, and I'm not the one that was being abused. I can't stop thinking about that poor woman's struggles and screaming. People suck.

Based on the opening text ("Scripture" from 1986), it looks to me like it's set far in the future, but space travel was discovered in the '80s, and that transformative event formed a religion that preserved the contemporary culture. So I'm guessing all the 80s items are religious items, like how Catholicism has preserved a lot of ancient culture, like Mary paintings and whatnot. It's not a bad premise, in and of itself, although a bit silly. These CDs aren't there because they don't have anything better, they're there as part of worship. That's my read, anyway.

In the past month alone, over 12M people joined Bluesky, with daily active users growing 10x. We received more reports in two days than in all of last year, and have integrated new systems and quadrupled our moderation team to try and keep up. Sometimes, we have to work quickly to correct errors.

We recently introduced a new system to detect impersonation. This tool automatically flagged some accounts that were taken down, then reinstated. Other prominent impersonation accounts were quickly removed, contributing to a false perception that we take action based on behavior outside of Bluesky.

The current controversies reveal weaknesses in the clarity of our Community Guidelines and failures in our communications. This has led to understandable confusion about how we interpret our guidelines. We need to be more transparent – without revealing to bad actors how to circumvent our systems.

Our growing moderation team needs clear evidence and well-defined rules to make decisions that can be consistently enforced, so they action accounts based primarily on content and behavior that appears in our app, where the context and authenticity can be directly verified.

We do not currently take action on accounts that share Bluesky screenshots with commentary, unless that commentary violates our Guidelines. We will take action when someone’s private information is shared without their consent, but only when it is personally identifiable and verifiable in-app.

Our moderation team continues to monitor and review all received reports, and will action accounts based on in-app violations of our Community Guidelines. We want our actions to be clear and consistent, recognizing that we have more work to do to make that happen.

We’ve been working on an improved version of our Community Guidelines that provides greater detail and more examples, and plan to release it early next year and solicit feedback from the community. As we grow, we will continue to learn and adjust.
