I don't care about OLED because I'm 95% on screen these days. Was fun playing Zelda on my commute early on, but once WFH started, my work bag was taken up by a laptop most days.

I mostly play Docked on the TV. The Pro Controller is just way more comfortable than holding the Switch itself. LCD is probably to keep the cost down.
We don't know much about the official specs but so far it seems a bit underwhelming to essentially release the same product again after 8 years. And if Mario Kart 9 is the launch game there is no revolutionary game like Breath of the Wild that launches with it.

Watch them turn off the servers of FH4 in 12 months anyway to save a few pennies.

Bought a bunch of games from Black Friday sales:
Prince of Persia Lost Crown - fuck, okay, I bought one of those cheap Castlevania collections on Switch and reignited my love for that series with Circle of the Moon of all games. This game is Metroid Dread with difficulty meters for near-40s gamers like myself. Lots of easy sliders and a really good map/movement that feels Dread-like. I give negative zero fucks about Prince of Persia but this game is actually really, really nice. Should be bought. Tomb Raider 1-3 - I heard better controls and nah, I still can't get into this. I do like her guns though, infinite ammo is a nice management decision. The ability to instantly pivot between old and new graphics is pretty fun. I really want to like these games and enjoy watching those that can interpret the controls because the exploration is nice. Metal Gear Collection - I haven't opened it yet. I still need to beat Death Stranding. I kind of liked that game. Want to dig into the old MG games and maybe 3, first. Alan Wake 2 - for about a year, people talked this up. And, I really clicked with Control from a gameplay perspective. Like, entirely. That wasn't that surprising given the first Alan Wake was super playable and I actually beat it for that reason. However, the 'deliberate' writing in that game fucking sucks and it ruined it for me because it tried so hard. I was actually pumped to play this until last week when I saw some make the same complaints about this game and how it was similar to the first and then all those that loved it said 'yeah, but the first is great in the same way. What's wrong with me? Why did I buy this? Haven't played it yet. Silent Hill 2 - FUCK. This is really, really good. The original was great, but also about half-broken the whole way through and this game is immensely playable, superbly paced and it just... I don't know - plays like I want it to? I think the story/writing is dopey and I love David Lynch, but the game and feel is just immaculate. Bloober makes no sense but this game is absolutely worth your time. Retrorealms Halloween/Evil Dead - this was super up my alley but the games are basic and the same thing. I LOVE genre shit, especially Halloween but the extras aren't great and the videos they have are just kind of self-referential. Give me some interviews with known-gamer John Carpenter or something. I am glad I supported this though because I really like the overarching idea of the business idea. The games control well and they're decent enough. Bosses were annoying/hard. Sandland - reminds me of a PS2 game, I don't have much to say but I bought it/haven't played it. SMTV Vengeance - haven't opened it - I really enjoyed V, it felt like it was an SMT for my play style and I really loved its setting. Plus, my kid is named Finn after the Irish legend and when that game came out you fight that legend and he was in my party the whole game. Anyway, might be my next. Metaphor - haven't played it yet, but I eventually warmed up to P5 so I said sure. Really LOVE all things SMT so I'll probably like this. I don't give a shit about its story. Just give me some weakness chains to jizz around and I'm sold This is all to say Balatro is my GOTY.

As much as Metaphor is a really cool game, I had more fun with SMT V: Vengeance to be honest.
More pure gameplay and less chatty cathy with your friends. And I don't think some of the companions in Metaphor are all that strong, I preferred the P5 cast.
Same, I adored SMT V vanilla actually. I bounced off P5 originally due to the bloated dialogue and social stuff. Just give me the fusions and the battle and SMT V added some pretty novel exploration to boot. Really clicked with me.
Sounds like Vengeance will be a nice revisit. Still buried in SH2 though. Game is long for a survival horror game. Lots of meat on the bone. About 14 hours in and at the prison.

I honestly can't wait for Ubisoft to go under.
I hope Bioware kicks the bucket as well. I don't want Mass Effect 5 by these morons.

Facebook wanted to be The Corporation in Ready Player One so fucking badly they renamed their whole fucking company, but it was already clear that the Ready Player Oneiverse already existed in Fortnite when you could be John Wick with Thors Hammer fighting Batman on a Transformer. At this point where you can be logging into Fortnite just to do some karaoke, or log in to get the essential fucking backstory on the final installment of the latest stars wars trilogy, holy fucking shit, Fortnite literally is Ready Player Gen Z* *other than there's no secret prize to win, the whole things just a huge fucking time and money sink

Fortnite is a capable 3rd person shooter, and has added compelling racing, Rock Band, and Minecraft modes to the game. They've also added Ballistic, to capture the sweaty literal FPS crowds, and it currently ONLY supports Ranked play due to a bug.
I made fun of it for years before my previous company president asked if anyone wanted to squad up, and I was embarrassed to find out it's really good. Actually, I went back to GTA V a little bit ago, and the cars feel like garbage in both that and Watch Dogs Legion, in comparison.

Did anyone else realise Unknown 9: Awakening released in October?
Going by the deep discounting it is already getting, it looks like no one did.

It looked like a PS3 game. I laughed at some compilations on youtube.

The npc dialogue is my favourite section. This was pushed as one of them progressive titles.
Then they got random Bengali dialogue going: "Biryani, biryani, butter chicken. Coffee chili." Should've hired the voice actor for Apu.

Anyone actually play Dragon Age Veilguard? Is it as bad as it seems?
(12-29-2024, 12:36 AM)DJ Bedroom wrote: Anyone actually play Dragon Age Veilguard? Is it as bad as it seems? I think someone on here played it (not me) Its just a very mediocre game. An action game with spongy enemies. An RPG with no meaningful choices. They don't impact anything. It looks good because everything is really closed off and scripted. But there is nothing special or fun about it. And thats not even talking about the horrible party members. Don't bother your valuable time with it.

play eternal strands instead on gamepass in jan. mike laidlaws new game
Got my nephew FFXVI for xmas. I initially wanted to get him the first two FFVII remakes, but it just seemed too ridiculous to only get him 2 out of 3 games, so I just went with 16. They're all fun in their own way so I hope the reviews are as untrue as they normally are for everything. (Cuz i wanna play it)

FFXVI is the epitome of "it's fine, I guess." Swings wildly from totally awesome to being reminded that the game was made by a group of dudes that make MMOs
