Unified subject matter or theme, being a collection of short stories, labeled under one unifying name sold together and has been shown in theaters. That's an anthology movie. What they sold it as doesn't matter.

What was shown on theaters is not how they sold on dvd. Festivals also show shorts on theaters that they later compile on a dvd, this does not turn it into an anthology.

Your transphobic like argument of the bucket defines what you are doing. They were each released in different times and different places as separated shorts. It so much different shorts that Second Renaissance has a part 1 and part 2. This makes no sense in a anthology because all your movie versions show one after the other.

They later transitioned into a movie to be easily presented in the digital age.

I did a cursory search on this out of curiosity. From what I'm reading (not able to listen now), his comments can be handwaived away if one is so inclined. But the fact that he was on Andrew Sullivan's podcast of all places saying it is the unignorable red flag.

I hope that's not true. As wild and well executed as the Rockwell monologue was...it felt like it could be leaning in an antitrans direction.

This shows history of portraying LGBT is pretty spotty to say the least. Everyone who is remotely anything other than straight is portrayed as highly deviant, drug addicts, murderers, etc. I realize that's most of the characters on the show, but it's basically 100% of the non-straight characters. Seeing the show in Thailand perhaps presented an interesting opportunity to present a nuanced trans character. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. I really like the show, so I hope I'm wrong.

i mean, he is bisexual himself. i know that's not necessarily mutually exclusive with transphobia, but i think at least his depictions of gay and lesbian characters in this series can be viewed with his own queerness in mind

Without getting in spoilers, a theme with the rich guests on this show is they’re all vapid and miserable in their owns ways. Her character this season is dumped on and frankly giving her a non binary kid would’ve been a dig at those types of parents. Removing that was likely done with good intentions. Similarly, they replaced a Thai actress with a White Canadian, because what that character gets into has some sketchy optics. Even when the show gets into those stereotypes, it’s done at the expense of the foreigners.

Also, kudos to the above poster who mentions segregation. This should have been done away with decades ago but schools, orgs, sports leagues, etc still revolve around a childish gender divide. This is also directly responsible for the "controversy" of trans athletes. If there were genderless leagues to play in and if the segregation was strictly practical and not ideological, things could be a lot different.

But the segregation IS practical FFS. "Boys leagues" are genderless leagues. The girls don't want to play in them because they either can't compete or it's too physical. How they can't wrap their head around this I don't know.

They believe that all sports leagues are gender segregated to protect men. I'm not making this up. They think all our sports leagues ban women even though the only one that ever had this rule was the MLB and that was because teams were using women pitchers as a ticket gimmick like a century ago. (My understanding is that certain soccer leagues in various countries have similar rules for basically the same reason, awful teams were doing things like women goalies.)

I don't get why a segment of folks want to just ban discussion of stuff rather than doing literally any awareness raising or activism around these issues.

Certain past games' containment/banning had some very unique circumstances that resulted in those policies, but before they were even considered as options by members or staff alike you had folks gently yet persistently educating others, providing links to research and analysis, and helping people make informed decisions and equipping them with the tools to be more critical of the content they still want to engage with. There was actual work (a lot of work) put into it by dedicated community members who had a vested interest in making this forum a more cognizant place in regards to thorny issues.

The influence of foreign governments/bad actors in our entertainment of choice sounds like something worth exploring in full to me. Would genuinely prefer folks make a thread discussing that, with links to further journalistic research, rather than reflexively demanding a topic ban.

If you guys want to bring up these issues in threads about the game, you are more than welcome to do so. Just don't attack other people for wanting to play it. We've got no problems with you bringing up the problems with the company.

That said, we're not really going to be banning it. Saudi Arabia has a stake in almost every game studio or publisher in the world. Even the argument for only banning this one would apply to actual sports that they have a stake in like golf, soccer, and F1. Hell, I think we'd need to ban tennis under the logic for the proposed ban.

There's a reason we don't ban content based on who is behind it: it's an incredibly slippery slope that has no real end. We made an exception for Potter, yes, but it was only after a lot of deliberation and with the understanding that we will not be doing anything like that again. The whole reason we started banning people for advocating for us to ban stuff is because we knew that if we banned Potter, that everyone and their grandmother would see that as an opening for us to ban every single slightly problematic thing that they didn't like. It would literally make the forum ungovernable for us and unusable for all of you.

If we are going to ban something, it's because the content itself is deeply problematic in some way. Just featuring Ronaldo isn't quite enough, otherwise we'd have to ban far more than just this one game.

You guys need to understand that we are moderators on an internet forum. There are limits to our time and availability. We have lives outside of this, though a lot of people seem to assume we don't, and those personal lives are important too. If you want to bring up the issues with problematic games in the threads about those games, you are more than welcome to. Just don't attack each other when you do it.
