I think only an independent investigation could shed some light on this. Also, how did he manage to get such high levels of it? How much syrup or tablets do you need to reach those levels in blood?

Something to keep in mind too; just because the Diphenhydramine levels are elevated, doesn't tell the circumstances in which they were elevated. Like it doesn't mean for certain that Nex overdosed on the Benadryl as a form of suicide. And as Alejandra Caraballo notes, the Washington Post article is rightfully expressing skepticism.

Given that the cause of death was attributed to a lethal combination despite one of the medicines not being elevated, and there is clearly cause for concern with how the state has handled this, independent investigation should happen. The Human Rights Campaign sums it up pretty well, I think:

The full report does little to fill in the gaps in information about that day or the more than a year of bullying and harassment that led up to it. It does not answer the questions of so many in Oklahoma and across the country. We continue to support the calls from Nex's family for an independent investigation.

"Young people in Oklahoma and across the country deserve to be safe and respected in school. This includes young people who may dress differently, speak differently, or identify differently from you. What's clear from Nex's death, and from what we've heard from so many students and parents in Owasso and across the state, is that this is not the case. The bolded is one of the many reasons why an independent investigation should be conducted. These are things that should be answered, if possible, and it's a question that has gone unanswered. I don't think the full report has an answer for that anywhere as far as I can tell.

It's crazy to me that the circumstances of their death have been obscured like this. I blame the state and I'm frustrated that Oklahoma teachers, admins, and police have seemingly tried to muddy the waters. Just disgusting.

I grew up in a mostly white state back in the 90's. I remember even getting to meet state reps and going to the capital to meet the governor for a special award ceremony.

I can't imagine what it's like knowing that the politicians making policy in my state hate me just for how I am. I already had dumb teenager shit to deal with. But all that with this blatant bigotry on top? And to have some online freak telling people to hate me? Like, what the fuck!? There's no words for how angry this makes me. This country fails its youth in so many ways.

So we have a user posting a regular known liar who constantly posts disinformation (and has participated in doxing) falsely saying the report shows "extensive traumatic injuries" when it shows minor bruises and cuts as well as "from the assault" when multiple of these predate the assault. As well as having zero medical knowledge and speculating that there's some kind of lie because they don't understand what was said.

Then Android Sophia (another known liar who constantly posts disinformation) comes in and points to how the MEDICAL EXAMINER REPORT doesn't talk about a year's worth of bullying. (Something Nex denied, saying she didn't even know the girls until recently.) Something which is completely impossible for the report to talk about, something which is not in the purview of police and something that is completely irrelevant to the cause of death.

Then we jump from there into the claims that the medical examiner outright fabricated toxicology reports and the regular nonsense about demanding feds and arrests and persecution of minors for non-crimes. Plus a claim that multiple officials have been "muddying the waters" when their narrative has been clear and everything has matched it. Even though there is absolutely zero evidence for any of the counternarrative. Not a single thing. Nex could come back from the dead and say it was suicide and they'd probably say this is proof of the cover-up of the murder that literally not a single person benefits from.
