I stayed out of the FFXVI representation thread because I refuse to jump down a developers throat before anyone has seen the entirety of the game. Lo and behold, there were many PoC in the game, it just took patience. A huge, disappointing narrative that is still being pushed post-release.

It's absolute BS that the two biggest SE releases this year were dinged because of racial issues prerelease that didn't exist in the full release.

Edit: You can definitely tell who did and didn't play FFXVI. Yoshida's comment were bait, and many fell for it.

This game is way better than people think it is. I will say the tar and feathering that happened to this game earlier this year was incredibly frustrating, and to be honest, the whole backlash towards this game tinged with racism and negatively towards Black women. Hella frustrating that this game was "made an example of" for bullshit reasons.

It's not a 10/10 game, but I loved the hell out of it still. I even platinumed it, which is something I rarely do for games. I just enjoyed vibing with it, just exploring and fighting through the game. It was a blast, and honestly I enjoyed it much more than FFXVI. I think Forspoken did a much better job with fleshing out and giving you freedom with exploring a world than that game did.

For something recent and concrete here's a review of the available evidence when it comes to trans women competing in elite sport, commissioned by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and published in November 2022:

There is currently no substantial research evidence of any biological advantages that would impede the fairness of trans women competing in elite women's sport. There currently exists no evidence to suggest that trans women who elect to suppress testosterone (through, for example, gender affirming hormone therapy and/or surgical gonad removal) maintain disproportionate advantages over cis women indefinitely. More specifically, current evidence suggests any biological advantages trans women have in sport performance do not fall outside the range observed among cis women after testosterone suppression.

What threatens women's elite sport, for cis and trans women, is not trans women, but is rather misogyny in the form of underfunding, non-parity in participation and leadership, inequitable sport space allocation/access, and a range of sporting opportunities not afforded to women (cis women and trans women) in equitable ways. Counter to these misplaced fears and in addition to the limited opportunities for women in sport, trans women also face overlapping systems of cissexism and transmisogyny (among others) in accessing sporting opportunities.
