Speaking of Petra, I find it odd that they aged her down in Forbidden West. She's visibly older in Zero Dawn with some wrinkles appropriate for a woman in her 30s or so. Then in FW her face has way smoother skin.

Might have been a result of her being a lower priority character, but hard to give benefit of the doubt.

To date, 1.1m+ Americans have died from COVID, and that number is likely an under count given that excess deaths have been running much higher. Obviously, a pandemic isn't the same as putting people into ovens or orchestrating a famine, but you also had government officials actively advocating for pro-infection strategies that got people killed ("we want them infected" - Paul Alexander).

Bayo is most definitely a "writer's barely disguised fetish" character. Arguably the prime example of the "sexism is over" parody. We are heading almost to an area where money will no longer be relevant because the top 1% will have all of it and the bottom 95% will have next to nothing. At that stage of capitalism what is even going to be the point of money. If a banana costs a million dollars who cares if you get $1500/month in UBI. I'm not even sure if a future UBI will even be paid out in currency. It might just have to be direct funding for housing/food/utilities.

Competition. If a restaurant tries that it's going to lose a ton of business to its neighbors. Even if a bunch of restaurants try that they're vulnerable to new entrants or substitution from things like grocery stores. It's true that at some point circulating more money is just going to cause prices to increase, because ultimately the amount of consumption we can do is limited by how much we can produce, but we're probably pretty far from that -- there's a lot of room for redistributing income and directing production away from things people with a lot of money spend on and toward things that people with not much money spend on.

But yeah, in many places housing has an issue where there's a severe supply shortage, so prices basically get set to whatever people can afford. It doesn't really matter if I'm charging twice as much in rent as the next landlord, eventually my neighbor's going to run out of properties and then people have to come to me. It is possible to find much cheaper housing, but people place so much value on being able to live close to jobs or in good school districts or where it's safe that they bid up the price to the point where everyone is spending as much as they can. That's why every time anyone looks at the problem with housing they end up concluding that we need to build a lot more of it.

So what you're saying is some kind of market force is necessary to prevent corruption and inefficiencies?
