Okay, so I didn't think we would have to issue bans in a thread about a racist. Like, I had a potentially naive hope that Era could navigate that discussion without issue until I woke up this morning. But I feel it's important enough in this instance to explain why we did so.

Simply put, Black suffering is expected. It is not just made invisible or downplayed; we collectively expect Black people to physically and psychologically suffer in all manner of ways, and we host this expectation without any regard for the possibility of Black people fighting back. Look at the innumerable conflicts and genocides in African communities and diasporas we do not actually talk about compared to other countries and communities. Look at the ways in which we reflexively appeal to pacificism when Black people are attacked.

You may ask, well why do we do this? It is because Black suffering is a significant material basis for the way in which our society functions. The US and Western Europe, and you could make the argument current world affairs as a whole, literally cannot exist as they do today if it is not on the back of centuries of brutal suffering and exploitation of the African peoples. And from this material basis emerges centuries of cultural justifications for it: rampant dehumanization, myths about our pain tolerance, or even just an inability to give a damn or becoming numb to seeing it over and over again.

So, in a conversation where someone rightfully points out that the only person in this situation who actually got hands put on them is a Black man, that while the white girl has endured emotional suffering, the Black man has endured both the physical and the emotional trauma of the moment...why would you get mad at that? What is it in you that is offended when someone points out that the Black person was the biggest victim in a given situation, and that his pain has been collectively overlooked? Why was it overlooked? Would you have overlooked it if it was another minority?

I have made no bones about how I feel about the political inclinations of this forum, but this is a moment to lay them bare: Era has light years to go when it comes to just seeing Black people as people worthy of protection from violence, as people who do not deserve to have to take violence from white people "with grace and dignity" by just not doing anything about it because that disturbs the status quo, to fundamentally understand that Black people's suffering is- unlike most other groups- uniquely and fundamentally paramount to the maintenence of Western supremacy, and that there are long conversations about the contradictions that exist to be had if you in any way consider yourself an anti-racist ally.

Sorry. You don't and never will have any ground to stand on to get in your feelings that someone pointed out that you had more sympathy for a white girl who was embarrassed than a Black man who was physically assaulted. Not until this system is broken. Take this time to do some questioning and introspection.

Yeah, I think that's the main takeaway. If bullying was the reason, and you aren't giving that reason when questioned by the police, it certainly makes your motives suspect. If the dude wants to beat the racism allegations, maybe he should speak up about why he actually did it.

Sooo I got a story to share. That some good can come out of this. Got a chance to talk about it with my therapist and I feel like I'm finally in a place where I can share this.

About two years ago I started writing at a new outlet. Mostly reviews, some other bits and pieces here and there. I can't get payed for my work which is totally fine for me, just the circumstances of my life. It's not a "for exposure" kinda deal so whatever. Anyway:

I knew that my views and morale wasnt totally aligned with most of the writers and the boss there. It's just work after all I said. I can move past it I thought.

Then Suicide Squad came out. It got a middling score which I actually agreed with but the writer (who runs the site) had to point out the "politics" shoved in our faces with the pride flag in the Hall of Justice, how sexist it is that Harley gets to touch a mans ass and how ugly both Harley and Ivy (a child in the game yeah…) as well as their non-revealing costumes (of a shitting child yeah!!!) have gotten.

It took me a bit to stand up and have the balls to get out of that hell hole, which wasn't easy for me. But I did it. I pointed it out and obviously it got really sad. "I'm not homophobic but…", "I have transgender friends" and "have you heard about Sweet Baby?" were some of the highlights. Finished up my work that I had already agreed to and that was it.

On a whim I messaged someone at a much larger and better known outlet. I got in pretty much immediately. I'm treated great, my views matter and I actually upgraded by so much. More games to cover, I had the chance to go to the Elden Ring event in Paris and some other events, just awesome stuff all around.

With that said:

Fuck the chuds. We can do better. We already do better.
