As I continually point out when this comparison comes up, there's a vast world of difference between a major social media site that is effectively a foundational pillar of modern society and a small video game messageboard with a few thousand members. Getting off of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, etc. when no-one else is leaving for any of the alternatives is basically the online equivalent to living off the grid and drinking you own piss to a lot of folks.

No, you do not need any of these platforms. Not obsessing over them and just using them as timewasters is actually the normal thing.

Not really about the shill identity crisis going on. It’s been pretty interesting to read about IMAX’s status throughout the years. From a documentary format. To a larger screen. To extended aspect ratios. Now they’ve leaned into the idea of immersive theater experiences. So Oppenheimer and Dune aren’t as big as Barbie and Marvel, but more go see them in IMAX. It’s a different metric for success. 

As an aside, Geoff Keighley comes from IMAX money. If you ever wondered why Nolan screened Inception in Fortnite.

You're right, both products are from multi-billion dollar corporations. But one product has a lead cast made up entirely of women and is a multicultural cast. It's not a moral choice, but acting like that information is completely irrelevant is just "both sides are the same" political logic. They aren't the same, and The Marvels if its good will be noteworthy for more than being a "good Marvel movie".

Not really about the shill identity crisis going on. It’s been pretty interesting to read about IMAX’s status throughout the years. From a documentary format. To a larger screen. To extended aspect ratios. Now they’ve leaned into the idea of immersive theater experiences. So Oppenheimer and Dune aren’t as big as Barbie and Marvel, but more go see them in IMAX. It’s a different metric for success.
