Wouldn't it be easier to just improve their forum so there's nothing to make fun of? People on thebore pointed out that TwoHearts was too mentally unwell to be around others MONTHS before the staff decided they were too much of a freak to keep around. The fact that moderators of resetera read thebore posts and still think they're doing a good job with the culture of the site and ban reasons says everything.

I might be wrong on this, but I think the reason Cyberpunk and Harry Potter received bans on this forum and other games haven't is that the communities most impacted by those games (i.e. the trans community) put in an incredible amount of work and campaigned for changes in policy over months or years. For Cyberpunk specifically, I remember there was an immensely detailed thread outlining all the issues with the game and the studio that ultimately led to the ban on discussion outside the OT. That hasn't happened with other games as far as I've seen.

I don't think the mods here are looking at each individual game release and deciding whether to ban discussion or not. I think they react to community feedback and make a call when that feedback is sustained and, frankly, becomes unignorable. Whether that is the right approach is up for discussion, but at least it avoids knee jerk changes to policy.

Calling for bans on discussion of games like this one is fine, but the "why is X banned if Y isn't?" comments I feel downplay the effort that the trans community on this forum specifically put in to effect the changes in policy.

The trans community definitely put in a ton of work to get those games banned for sure, but on the flip side, I'd say this game should be much… easier to ban just by virtue of being a pretty unknown developer, new IP, hell it didn't even get amazing reviews. HP is a massively known and hyped IP, and Cyberpunk was the next game from the developer of ERA darling Witcher 3.

Like, that's part of my confusion with this and Stellar Blade. These are completely unproven developers who couldn't even establish a name for themselves without proving how bigoted or backwards they are before even pushing out their first game. And the games aren't even that good apparently? Like I'd kind of get it if these are gonna be unavoidable GOTY staples or revolutionary games that would influence the industry going forward to a point where their influence was inescapable, but they seem to just be pretty middling action games that are dime-a-dozen and should be pretty easy to not discuss. Why are we even giving them the time of day? And I'm not even just referring to the staff not banning it - collectively shunning unproven and bigoted developers who have put out one mid game shouldn't be as hard as it seems for this community, there's literally nothing worth investing in and supporting, yet they've both gotten hype threads and so many people here playing them. I don't get it.

Maybe everyone else doesn't want to be banned from discussing games they like because of a bunch of terminally online loli perverts?

I do agree that an unofficial shunning should happen and the way to do that is not to participate in those hype threads or, if you do, bring these issues into them. Let the people who are "hyped" for this game know what they're supporting (with the knowledge that some are already aware and being willfully ignorant).

How wonderful that we have multiple hype threads for this game on the front page of these forums. When I think of ways that these boards can be a more safe and welcoming place for women, somehow this ain't at the top of the list.

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been given the Cyberpunk "one megathread to discuss the game itself" treatment, given how blatant the issues with the studio are. Unless there's a staff post that I missed, in which case, please point it out to me.

I don't get it, and I don't pretend to understand the process behind how those decisions are made, but it's frustrating and disheartening to see a game from these horrible human beings taking over the front page. Seems like limiting discussion to one thread would be the least that could be done.

Between this and Stellar Blade it feels like we are backsliding hard as an industry.

It's really lame that a game like this is allowed to have multiple hype threads on a place like era. Although I guess I shouldn't be too surprised at this point.

You're not wrong at all, but I already had minimal expectations of the members here. The people I do expect more from though are those in positions of board leadership.
