huh, you're right - kind of shitty they're charging £10 for a fucking 360 launch title whose servers were shut down over a decade ago though.

Wait, were those PlayStation and Xbox etc streams meant to be E3 showings? Do they still do stuff like that? I’m an idiot and it started to click. But I get why people feel let down if those were the expectations.

I miss the old days when Sony spent an hour showing charts and sales figures.

Yeah and the PlayStation thing was abysmal. They switched focus to Live Service games, watched all the bombs and switched back so now their slate is kind of empty.

The Xbox thing was the best in years and some of it looked good but the jury is still out if
A. Everything is good
B. Everything will actually ship (within this decade)

Third party publishers don't have lots of games either, Ubisoft has Assassins Creed and Star Wars. But unlike Nintendo they don't have the balls to make their show just 1 or 2 games.
So instead they fill an hour with trailers of existing live service games in their 4th or 8th year along with ads for games already released.

I don't think this format works anymore because you're just not getting a surprise game reveal for a game that will be released 'this holiday' or even next year that isn't COD or Nintendo.
Microsoft announces something like Gears, which won't release until 2026 at the earliest. They finally have the first alpha gameplay of Perfect Dark, which was announced 6(?) years ago.
75% of what Microsoft showed won't launch for another 18 months at least.

Also as Paul Thurrott said with the number of studios they have now, Xbox must release 1 big AAAA game practically every month to get any return on their investment.

They say millions are watching but I simply don't believe it. The YouTube stream of Geoff Fest had ~500k viewers at its peak.
The Ubisoft show (terrible image quality too btw) had 50k viewers.

The Switch 2 reveal is going to be a complete slaughter for Sony and Microsoft.

Nintendo are going to be announcing a whole slate of release window games at a time when the best Sony and MS can do is say GTA6 might make it in time for cross platform release with our next consoles.

I went looking to see what they had shipped too. Didn't even have anything far enough along to be announced yet.

That's a lot of white and white adjacent faces. Obviously if they hired more black bodies they might have managed to ship a game.

They hadn't even tweeted in nearly a year.

Does sound like they took "Play" way too seriously and they forgot to do any work.

If I were an exec in tech, I'd cross reference that shitty group drawing and put any names I'd found on a blacklist. These fucks got nothing done in 3 years. Hire the 24 year old in that drawing.

My brother said they originally didn't want to close the studio but the CEO was unable to find investors quick enough so Sumo Digital shut them down anyway.
He also said they were so busy with diversity and things like that, that the game was behind schedule.

I think Ubisoft is a decent match for Sony in terms of IP but what is the upside of this? Sony gets the same games as before but now they pay the development and marketing costs?

I don't

I'm going to pre-order Switch 2 about 300 times just to pad their numbers and make MS/Sony bean counters cry a little harder

I do wonder if Nintendo is able to show a big enough difference between Switch and Switch 2.

The fundamental issues that the industry is struggling with like all kiddos being stuck playing Fortnite for a decade, audience shifting to social media and less interest to upgrade hardware will impact Switch 2 as well. At the same time there is a big opportunity for Nintendo if they manage to flip those 50% of PS4 players that haven't bought a PS5 yet.

I’m out of touch. Any rumors?

I’ve had Metroid Prime 4 preordered since 2018. Hoping for yet another announcement of cancellation and handing to another developer.

Going by my youtube gaming tab the rumours were loads of Zelda ports and a new 3D Donkey Kong game.

I'll just wait and see tomorrow.

Genuinely would like some ports of Zelda ports. Bringing the 3DS and Wii U ports at 60 FPS shouldn’t be too crazy an ask.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War Remake
Surfaced along with Metroid Dread, Wario and Links Awakening for 3DS. Wario got cancelled, Metroid and LA eventually released.

New Zelda game
Some kind of 2D Zelda project is in development, unsure if it shows up at this Direct but would make sense as a holiday title (like 2D Mario last year)

F-Zero GX - Remaster
Rumored to be in development at Next-Level Games, could also be for Switch 2

Donkey Kong
Started development as Donkey Kong Freedom at Vicarous Visions, Activision dropped it but rumor has it Nintendo has either continued the project or rebooted it.
In any case, they've put quite some effort into Donkey Kong for the theme park rides, Mario Movie and LEGO sets so a new DK game would make sense.

Metroid
Possible shadow drop of MP2/MP3 remasters, along with a reveal of the Switch version of Metroid Prime 4 but if one game is a prime candidate as Switch 2 launch title its this one

Xenosaga
The copyright and references showed up in Xenoblade Future Redeemed, would make sense considering the close ties Nintendo has with Bandai/Namco

Square Enix
They didn't have a big presence at Sony or Microsoft but they teased Dragon Quest 3-HD prior to Geoff Fest, plus there is the rumored FF9 remake.

Apart from this Nintendo will probably do whatever they have to do to pad out the line-up with a Mario & Sonic Olympics game, maybe a new Mario Party or Kirby or whatever.

Prices in Europe have gone up only slightly, from dirt cheap to cheap.
Very few expensive Xbox 360 games here.

I got caught into this hype with the closing of the 3DS eShop, wasn't really worth it.
Those games dropped in price quickly.
