We haven't seen Legion. Reading the Wikipedia page, it seems to make the common misconception of associating Dissociative Identity Disorder and Schizophrenia together? While the two can be comorbid with each other, they're very different conditions.

As for Split... I can only speak of my own opinion here as I'm the one fronting, but it's not a very flattering or accurate portrayal. James McAvoy does good with the body language, at least, and I like that they showed female alters. But the rest of the movie regurgitates some of the worst stereotypes and inaccuracies regarding DID and OSDD. Systems with DID are more likely to be the victims of violence, rather than violent themselves.

In regards to opening up about this, yes. Liz and Margie both had objections initially about making this thread. In fact, this was a big reason why we haven't discussed it too much here. We only agreed to it after watching Moon Knight, and even then Liz still had a lot of hesitation at first. Unfortunately, harassment is still a very common thing, and while I appreciate the wonderful responses from everyone, this thread isn't exactly private even in the members only section.

In your example regarding amnesia, there would have to be a compromise of some sort there. The example you mentioned isn't one that would typically come up (some of us like horror, but there is a universal dislike of excessive gore due to violence being a trigger) so it's hard to say what we would do in that situation. Additionally, while all of us would remember what happened, we wouldn't be able to perfectly recall it unless we were fronting. The details would be like any other memory at that point.

Episodes 4 and 5 were very emotionally intense in a way we weren't expecting. I don't know how I feel about the portrayal of some aspects of it. But there were also aspects I absolutely loved. I don't think Moon Knight is a perfect representation of DID, and I'm not even sure it's possible for a perfect representation to given how varied the condition can be. But it's one of the best we've seen in a TV show/movie.

We watched the two episodes in parts over the course of the day, especially as episode 5 had a lot of triggering content. I had to stop at one point because of this. Episode 6 is going to be for tomorrow or Thursday because of this.

On the Layla and Steven scenes in episode 4, [ISPOILER]I enjoyed the dynamic between the two of them a lot. It was enjoyable watching them go through the tomb and solve riddles and stuff. Steven being an absolute dork the whole way through was personally relatable to me. That being said, the kiss between the two of them was unsettling, and Liz did not like it at all. I think our dislike of this scene was the one two combination of how we view our own relationships with others, and just second hand embarrassment. [/ISPOILER]

Watching a family member be devastated from such an event is even harder, and I felt that aspect of watching a family member get worse and worse on a personal level. Our own dissociation wasn't dramatic as that, but the way Marc kept saying "It's not my mom, it's not my mom..." before Steven appeared and took over was definitely something that struck a chord with us.

We haven't gone through that kind of parental abuse like that, but it is definitely something we understood. I struggled to watch it in particular. For headmates/alters who are not the host, it can sometimes feel like you just exist as a byproduct or extra. This scene actually got me thinking very deeply about how I relate to the other headmates in our system. Especially as the system's primary host.

EDIT: Something I forgot to mention too [ISPOILER]Steven being based off a fictional character. Fictives are common in DID systems, and can often take the form of characters from media that people know. But what I really found impressive is that Steven himself seems to not be a fictive directly and instead simply has the fictional character as a basis. That's very relatable on a personal level. There are no fictives in our system, and our system was formed long before this. But people reading this thread closely might have noticed that two of the five people in our system have names taken from a certain PS1 RPG. That also deals with Dissociative Identity Disorder as a major plot point. [/ISPOILER] An incredible attention to detail right there from the showrunners.

So this raises at least one question, are they rewatching the episodes over and over as each member of the system fronts?

edit: Actually, it's remarkable that all the alters despite being distinct personalities don't have different opinions about the show, Marvel, the experience of DID, etc.

Even crazier is how one of the alters only ever uses a separate Twitter account. The way some of these people's luck runs always in their desired favor and they always know the truth of everything about every topic I'm surprised they never gamble or invest. (For example, MovieBob is always giving away easy ways to make millions with almost no effort but he never himself partakes.) Just goes to show how good their motives are that they can resist such simple greed unlike the rest of us.

On the topic of self-serving delusions, I almost never trust anyone who casually mentions that they were raped or molested online.

Everyone I've even remotely known in real life who went through that shit, never bring it up! It's not something they want anyone but their therapist to think about when interacting with them. It's usually the worst thing that's happened to them and they don't like wearing that nightmare like it's their identity.

So every time I see someone on Era use that shit like it's nothing more than an ATK/DEF buff to win internet arguements I can't help but view it with the same skepticism I hold for "Headcases"/"Headmates"

It's one thing if it comes up in a relevant context rather than an attempted power move to prevent discourse. Rarely seems like the former and funny enough one of the famous examples in the community is Fiction bringing it up in a relevant manner and Opiate dismissing it. I'd actually argue this is far more common on ResetERA.com than than anything, whether it's Nepenthe dismissing the concerns of the Indigenous in Peru, the Puritans dismissing the concerns of women, people of color dismissing the concerns of other people of color, or the self-chosen mental health elite determining the truth or falsity of others mental health through armchair diagnosis it always descends into manipulation of power relations in social forces. Then they project this mentality onto everyone else, I do it constantly so of course they must also! Surely (((they))) must seethe and plot for the right moment to reveal their alt and enact the plan to say a slur to cheers from the hate sites that push the Evil Agenda™.

On that note, we all need to understand that this is a confusing situation for many and that there is very little unbiased or reliable reporting to fall back on. Even for those of us who have some familiarity with the basics, there are a lot of claims bouncing around and not much in the way of substantiation. As such we ask users to try and following these guidelines:

1. Please watch your sourcing. In situations such as these, there are a lot of biased or slanted media outlets running around trying to paint a picture by engaging in what is known as "yellow journalism". This means they are more concerned with sensationalism and pushing specific ideas than with reporting hard fact. These sorts of sources are no good and we should strive to avoid them. While factual outlets can get it wrong sometimes, outlets that engage in yellow journalism cannot be trusted at all and will actively twist facts. Hence our request to avoid them.
   
2. Don't be dicks to each other. This is simple so I put it in the simplest possible terms. Don't make crazy accusations of each other and understand that not everyone is going to know everything about this situation or the preceding 100+ years that helped create the situation we currently find ourselves in. We won't tell you to be best friends, but at least be cordial and respectful.
