Clearing the decks for an announcement I think

Picked up Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on the Switch.
I was on the fence but then I remembered how great all the other (Super) Famicom /GameBoy remakes are like Fire Emblem: Echoes, Trials of Mana and Links Awakening so I'm expecting great results here too. It wasn't that expensive either for a new release.

So many great Switch deals it's kind of mind blowing.
Just ordered Star Ocean 2 for 30. Octopath 2 is 25 ... also tempting

[/tweet] Thought those were triggers on the joycons but they’re the release button. They pop off instead of sliding.
yeah the whole thing has basically leaked already.
I like how it looks, especially the Joy Con, more 'core gamer' oriented. I'm not sure if the grips I've seen are attached to some kind third party casing or if the third party grips can replace the ones that come with the console. Optical sensor could also open up new control schemes, basically enable mouse controls. Now all we need is the specs. Wild rumors on that one. Either that Samsung 5nm node rumor is true, which would mean Xbox Series S in your pocket. Or it really is an 8nm chip and just maxes out at PS4 level at best. You can't really tell from the motherboard, just that it is quite a big chip. DLSS 3.1 @4k is a nice surprise if true, I thought they would be stuck at DLSS 2.0. Anyway I'm back on the hype train for this thing.

tbh I’m fine with the level of visuals for Nintendo games, just at higher resolutions and frame rates.
They’ll announce Cyberpunk and other multiplatform games, but I have a PC. I don’t own a single Switch game that’s available on other systems.

It's more about the longetivity and getting those third party ports. With Series S level specs the library will be much deeper. The Switch had that sweet spot where it was worth it to try and port PS4 games and not just PS3/Xbox 360 games. With that said I think Switch 2 will be replaced quicker with new hardware anyway (just based on the strides Nvidia is making now and more competition in the handheld space).

PS4 level power would mean almost all current gen gets ported. Hell, most PS5 games are still also available on PS4.

Reading about the Zelda Echos game and how it runs at either 60 or 30FPS. And I’m wondering if Nintendo will have a boost mode in the Switch 2 for Switch 1 games. It’d fix up a lot of those instances. Likewise, it’d make sense if Switch 2 handheld mode let you play Switch 1 games in docked mode.
It’s Nintendo, so who can say. Waiting on playing Zelda until the reveal.

That's literally what I'm waiting for. Got loads of Switch games I want to play, but they all have performance issues. I hope it pushes games with vsync buffering to a locked 60 and games with dynamic resolution scaling to max res.
Anything with framedrops will probably also be smoothed out.

Underwhelming reveal trailer but until we see games, I guess this was expected.
It does look more premium/mature, but I kinda like the toy appearance of the first Switch. The lone new gimmick/feature seems to be the "mouse", which I don't care about, but could be useful for those who play games like the Sims, Civilization, etc.

What a pathetic reveal

yep thats a switch

Adding more play styles and control options is nice.
But if Nintendo says 2025 that usually means it'll take a while. I have serious doubts this thing will be in stores before those hands-on events and within a month after that Direct. Full reveal in April, events though April / May / June. So either june or Q3/Q4 for the launch.

Actually quite a bit of potential for Wii U confusion.
They announce it with Mario Kart but it doesn't look that much different from Mario Kart 8. The other picture is a Switch game running on it. It could be that they want to keep both on the market and sell cross gen games but right now it looks like another Switch upgrade, rather than an entirely new console generation.

Mario Kart supposedly supports 24 person races. Was it 8 or 16 before?

I think the most hilarious thing about the "leakers" is that they completely missed the biggest USP of the joycons being the mouse functionality.

I was hoping that maybe this would allow third parties to announce something but this was really it until April wasn't it
01-17-2025, 09:12 PM
Yep. Not sure if that makes it more or less painful
