on an unrelated note I think I'd really hate a movie that dramatized an event from the American occupation of Iraq that provided no context for the presence of the Americans and broadly glorified their actions and "sacrifices" while all the Iraqis, the people in whose country the movie takes place, remained generic and nonspecific threats or background victims

It's Alex Garland, after Civil War and especially his comments about it after the fact I don't respect him at all. Would you expect anything more? Apparently it's a virtue to have nothing to say. Wow California and Texas teamed up. Well isn't that fucking riveting.

I'd be genuinely shocked if this movie had an even a smattering of empathy or insight. Garland is demonstrably clueless about American politics and he's buddying up with an American Iraq war veteran. Why not an Iraqi director?

This is a brilliant write-up, and while I did not give it much thought while playing the game, you have completely convinced me how important Astro Bot is to the non-binary community. I will also add that it's great to see a main character that is often clumsy, goofy, and of a general "round" shape, which not only makes Astro adorable but also relatable to so many. As incensing as it is to see people banned for protesting events surrounding the removal of trans rights and healthcare due to the use of a specific word, it doesn't eclipse the hurt experienced by women who have been subjected to it in its more violent use both here and abroad. It's easy to let the frustration of the former land on top of the existing anger the initial protesting is about and react in short-sighted ways. I'm sorry for speaking to things in a way that left other women here feeling less seen or appreciated. I do think a degree of context could be used in determining a given punishment, and was never arguing for acceptance of a use beyond which we've seen contested bans for, but it's clear there's a deeper sentiment at hand than I'd appreciated.

Kyuuji says it better than me (as usual), so I'll just associate myself with her post and say I certainly didn't intend to dismiss women here.
