I will never really understand why this forum hates multiplayer games so much.

Plenty of people love to play them.

A lot of us are getting older, and when you get older, nobody is around to play games with you anymore, and nothing is more miserable and awful than spending all your time playing multiplayer games alone against a silent horde of twelve-year-olds.

Except this wasn't Elon's life. His is incredibly public and easy to find out about. He was moved into private school because of a bullying instance that left him hospitalized, yes, but he wasn't some nerd stereotype being bullied. He threw gigantic parties in college to make money.

If anything, Elon seems to want to play up his geek/nerd credentials he doesn't have. He's never been the "computer nerd" at any of his companies, that's not his core competency. He was a physics and economics major. He understands a lot of the "nerd" stuff he oversees but it's not like he could get into SpaceX, Tesla or Twitter's codebase and write features on a whim*. He just understands how they work at a higher level like any startup executive rather than one who comes from the outside. To use myself as a comparison, I can't really write C code, but I can very much understand the purpose of something a programmer would write if he explained it to me and how it could work theoretically since I know other programming languages and how they work and so on. This is the kind of area knowledge Elon also has regarding the tech he oversees at his company. Steve Jobs was similar, Gates probably didn't code anything at Microsoft for decades, etc. But it's a real mistake to consider any of these people, including myself, a "nerd" that would fit the typical in the real weeds programmer or engineer stereotype. Well, except Gates.

*I imagine that he could, similar to others mentioned in this paragraph, be able to be pointed to something in say, Twitter's, codebase where you'd just need to tweak variables or settings and he very much could futz with it and imagine what the changes might be. Something that would be beyond B-Dubs or the staff's competence, for comparison, despite ostensibly running a forum interested in a technology topic.

I've tried to find accounts under the name Crossing Eden across social media but no luck, which fair play to them displaying some semblance of internet savvy. I recall some posters either here or on the KF thread claiming they're a Ubisoft community manager, is there anything that lends credence to that or is it purely speculation based on their Ubi ball washing? I find them utterly fascinating.

Crossing Eden has long been doxed, Kiwi Farms has a thread on him. I won't link it just to maintain distance between us and the actual dox, but it's in their DarkSydePhil section because he was one of DSP's orbiters and defenders. If it's not in this thread it's in our prior Journal thread that I posted his currently claimed job from his LinkedIn. He's not anyone in the games industry in any way, he once had a minor testing job decades ago. He barely has an actual job, he's a glorified tutor for kids. I understand wanting moderation to feel personable. But over the years ive grown tired of them weighing into topics with their personal opinion. It creates an inherent power inbalance and encourages certain groups to act out because of the appearance of having the moderation teams backing. it also creates a silencing effect where if you disagree with a moderator you are aware that your post will likely get more scrutiny. I think it puts people off from discussing stuff creating a further echo chamber. Im not suggesting that mods become 100% anonymous, we know modbot was a failure for that reason. what im suggesting is that mods have their personal account for personal interaction with the community, but that account can still get actionned for breaking the rules and users can ignore them if they wish. and they have a corresponding mod account which is for official actions and communications only named in a way so people dont know which mod account belongs to which user. I think its jsut no longer good that the mod team puts their thumb on the scales on certain topics as it has contributed to some of the toxicity we see in the community where we often see a "its okay to act like an asshole solong as i am correct" mentality. Which coincidentally is something i believe should be moderated what use is being a completely "progressive space" if everyone is always taking chunks out of each other for not 100% following the correct opinions we need to be able to feel safe to disagree or even the space to get something wrong and learn without being treated like an active member of the republican party.

On the last community thread I said something similar and got thread banned for "conspiracy theories" and misrepresenting moderation. It's absolutely a thing that happens. Some users have basically made hijacking threads to be snarky assholes their entire schtick but since they're on the right side of the argument nothing happens. I ended up putting most of these users on ignore once I realized they have a carte blanche to do whatever they want without consequence.

That's because you insinuated the mod staff was using posters as mouthpieces and giving them immunity to punishment to push agendas. As you are here. Which isn't true.

You're mad because you've gotten bans for being on the "wrong side of the argument", sure I get that. But if the wrong side was a viewpoint bad enough or expressed badly enough to get you banned, whose fault is that? Has nothing to do with the mod staff or anyone else. That's a you problem.

None of the actions have names attached and the staff all refuse to speak about them especially any particular action which is deemed "relitigating" even though there was never any litigating.
