I don’t hate Social Media, but it truly fucked a lot people perception of reality. In a better world, people will be able to use it responsibly and with critical thinking. I think this is what's closest to the truth. To fix the forum, he would have to take action against his administration team and make fundamental rule changes. But he doesn't dare do so, because of his self-made guilt and because he is afraid of being disliked.

So he closes his eyes, figuratively speaking, and just prays that the forum will sort itself out naturally. When this doesn't happen, he pleads for people to act as they "should" in the reality that only exists in his head. Hence the "We are better than this" stuff he says all the time.
