I don't understand the logic in trying to ban posting links from Twitter. People link to twitter so regularly that it'd be much harder not to. It's not gonna change anything. You're just going to cripple your already terminally online fanbase by forcing them to find links on bluesky. Yes, I think Elon Musk is a toxic manchild, his Nazi Salute was beyond idiotic (to say the least), and I think he enjoys the company of far right nonsense, but I don't see any purpose in trying to cover up Twitter like it doesn't exist. He's already the richest man in the world, no mini protest will affect him in the slightest. OP is more than likely going to do what they want but people in harsh financial situations shouldn't be spending $200 on escapism when that's just going to dig themselves a bigger hole of stress and anxiety.

That's just my perspective as someone who was already there when I was about to lose our house because my husband became disabled from a car accident and my first thought wasn't buying a new laptop, but needing a second job to pay for the difference. TL;DR the escape was knowing I get to keep our house.

I'm sorry to hear that, but financial hardships is a spectrum; one may be safe from homelessness, but still be having a really tough time financially.

Why spend money on any food that isn't flour since it has the lowest cost per calorie? Everyone should understand that on a fundamental level the bare necessities for the human body to survive are not the same as what a human mind needs. If that gaming device improves their quality of life, it can be a good purchase, especially if it is one of the the few things standing between them and giving up. We shouldn't begrudge anyone for taking what little they have to make their lives better, especially the people who have the least.

Sometimes I think that the forum is really too US centered and it shows a LOT in this thread with all the ban petitions (which I agree partly).

Yeah, Twitter is really bad, but have you ever thought for the rest of languages which, the rest of alternatives are basically non existent?...

Japan related threads (particular case, the vTuber thread for example) would be basically extinct since almost all the population post on Twitter.

Think a month ago there was talk of an old popular social media platform getting revived having potential. But nothing really came of it. Twitter is everywhere and a completely different experience.
