And the frustrating thing is that deep down I don't think that will ever happen, so many people want RPGs (especially "Western RPGs". Lilith I hate that term) to just be power fantasies, game studios who make RPGs don't seem to be interested in making them in the mainstream space. It's one of the reasons why in recent years I've been getting more into visual novels because they do provide lesbian focused stories, where the idea of a canon lesbian lead isn't laughed off and they actually use the term lesbian.

But those VN are also niche of the niche. Go to the VNDB and type “lesbian protagonist” and compare with everything else there. That is not mainstream at all.

Those games are cheap to make compared to your hypothetical all encompassing RPG where everything affects everything. Why do you think many people stick with making the games in RPGMaker?

I don't think anyone has the heart to tell echoes that no one is going to fund a triple A rpg with a fat ugly lesbian main character. I doubt echoes even honestly wants that. I'm sure those VNs are all about anime schoolgirl lesbians who look like this:

I can understand it but I feel if characters weren't player sexual we just straight up would almost never get male on male relationships. I can't even think of a single canon(?) male romance scene in anything except for weirdly enough Kingdom Come 2.

Whereas I feel I could name dozens upon dozens of canon lesbian relationships in all kinds of games from small to large. I do understand wanting more but I always feel like I'm dying of thirst watching people drown in water.

Early in the first act, you come across a Jewish merchant named Mordecai Haim. As well as being a vendor, you can engage him in the same kind of ‘hey, how’s it going? Anything going on in the area?’ small talk as you can with most NPCs. His response to such an inquiry? ‘Pay me’. Jesus Christ.

There’s also a character who is revealed as being gay during the core questline, but adding this element to their characterisation is to fall back on such an agonisingly tired, boring and dated series of tropes that I’d frankly rather they’d just not have even gone there at all.

I love how he doesn’t specify why the characterization is bad and tiring while every other review mentions being a highlight of the game. Also, first time he is playing a game where vendors don’t want small talk?
