I think the thing that gets me about this is…Minhaj is a Brown Muslim man living in post 9/11 America (not that pre 9/11 was much better). What it sounds like is Minhaj is from a well off family, grew up in a comfortably liberal place. Which, there’s no gentle way to say this, tends to internalize some guilt about how good you have it among your “group”. It’s weirdly common. Like, I’m sure some of us know guys like that. Specifically Muslim dudes will always share a story about getting pulled aside by TSA that one time. Not good, obviously, but they’ll embellish it like they were sent to gitmo.

I really don't get why it seems 90% of the people who hate JRPG's seem to like Mario RPG, Pokémon or Mother, since other than the cartoony setting they are basically the same to me, if you like any of those games you will likely enjoy other non cartoony RPG's, there is no big difference unlike with a western style RPG for example.
Do you think it's just bias against anime art style, people thinking all or most of them are on medieval fantasy setting, a problem with the writing of the less cartoony games, or a combiantion of all of them?
