Which really is kind of weird to me. I get the representation argument with gender or race. As a white dude you're used to seeing white male characters, so you'll obviously find it less important, however none of those white dude protagonists share my Dad bod bodytype and I was never desperate to see it in a videogame either.

It would be extremely inappropriate to “advise” a Mexican-American creator that their life experience is off-limits because of images that evoke stereotypes.

If anything, positive depictions of large households would help dispel the negative connotations associated with it.

The “yellow sky” criticism doesn’t even make sense because they show takes place in the US, not Mexico.

A lot of the reaction you're seeing online is because many latinos are defensive with these tropes after their constant use.

You're told "look at the new disney show about latinos" and you're immediately hit with the usual yellow sky and the bunch of family crammed in a room (because hey, we're so poor to afford big houses and yet can't stop having kids amirite?) and as proven by this thread several times the defensive reaction happens.

Then you come and say "Actually using these tropes is totally fine this time since it's based on another latino and actually it's not México it's America!. Maybe using them this time is good"

And yeah that's not going to work. You can't just tell people that this thing that is used to make fun of them them repeatedly is suddenly okay this time.

I'm not saying at all that it is off limits, I think this is a MASSIVE misunderstanding between different latinos and their sensibilities.

The tropes are there, I don't like them, but I get the context and I don't fault the creator. Many others online lack or don't care about the context and are mad of the tropes being used and hence we have a giant shitshow.
