It's not surprising that young people are surprise to find out Bin Laden was more of a natural product of America's colonialism than a random violent force.

Of course anyone fully supporting the letter is bananas because there is some heinous shit in there. But America can use more self-reflection that's not conflict is good vs evil. Given that the latest complicated geo-politics event some people really want to push it as good vs evil I'm not sure if these are the people I'm worried about.
I agree.

Maybe, just maybe you should listen to your enemies when they tell you why the fuck they hate you with a passion.
Instead of most americans just thinking us brown people are just barbaric and hate american freedom.

Nope, when the automatic recounts are done new vote totals will pop up. One vote deciding an election is in fact statistically ignorant.

It's also false choice nonsense. Really false choices piled upon false choices. The choice to vote (notice how the narrative privileges mindless voting over asking why people truly aren't voting, then the narrative moves onto trying to find ways to manipulate people to vote rather than accepting that their non-participation is valid and superior), the choice to vote for one of the most likely to win parties, the choice to vote for only their nominee, the choice to vote for a representative and nothing else, etc. Even in the improbable event that it decides the winner, it still doesn't "matter" in any recognizable way.

Nepenthe is in fact correct that reducing politics to voting is stupid. She's incorrect, as normal, in reducing it to gibberish about overturning capitalism, colonialism and white supremacy by "doing the work" in a cult.

The mandate is correct it's Them that is using is wrong.
Free speech absolutism does not excuse anything, it's not the position that no one else may respond. It's that you can't use violence to silence others. Volimar's assumption is that it is in fact justified to use violence to respond to speech.

this probably belongs in a tech thread or megacorps threatening the world thread, but whatever it's kind of global news now and expect era to sperg over it shortly

https://www.reuters.com/technology/sam-altmans-ouster-openai-was-precipitated-by-letter-board-about-ai-breakthrough-2023-11-22/

Quote:Nov 22 (Reuters) - Ahead of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s four days in exile, several staff researchers wrote a letter to the board of directors warning of a powerful artificial intelligence discovery that they said could threaten humanity, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The previously unreported letter and AI algorithm were key developments before the board's ouster of Altman, the poster child of generative AI, the two sources said. Prior to his triumphant return late Tuesday, more than 700 employees had threatened to quit and join backer Microsoft (MSFT.O) in solidarity with their fired leader.

The sources cited the letter as one factor among a longer list of grievances by the board leading to Altman's firing, among which were concerns over commercializing advances before understanding the consequences. Reuters was unable to review a copy of the letter. The staff who wrote the letter did not respond to requests for comment.

- Altman gives a speech that they've made some insane progress and next year makes this year look like child's play

- he is fired the next day

- the board installs an interim ceo

- the board says nevermind, we're putting in a different interim ceo

- the board refuses to tell anyone why they got rid of altman, they won't even tell the new ceos

- while this is going on, the board frantically and secretly tries to merge with their competitor Anthropic, which is known for prioritizing safety over commercialism (Anthropic refuses)

- everyone at the company turns against the board and says they're leaving if they don't get their leader back, and the board caves and resigns

- senior researchers have been making weird spiritual overtures

- other insiders have been hinting at things on twitter

- by the way, china suddenly wants to be friends with the US again

The game freezing on me every other day, characters doing weird shit for not reason, missions screwing up my bounty, NPC turning on me after siding with them, characters initiating a convo with me while and in the middle of another conversation thus breaking the game.

As of now I have 4 missions that are bugged that I can't complete.

"Runaway"(Can't open door in a hotel to talk to a character)
"Location of the ECS Constant"(The mission marker is pointing at nothing)
"Burden of Proof" and "Find information on the conditions in the Lock" (Station called Eye is locked with no way to get to the mission markers)

I really like the game but damn......I'm playing this games right after beating TOTK(200hrs with not a single bug/freeze)

China recently decided to become friendly with us again and removed all of the bullshit punitive tarrifs they imposed on our barley, wine, lobsters and other goods when we suggested that a transparent UN-led investigation into the origins of covid might be a good idea. Our PM even went for a nice visit and Xi called him a "handsome boy".

Sounds wonderful, right? Normalised relations after years of being frozen out.

Cool.

Then a few days later, some Chinese warship points high powered sonar at two of our Navy divers checking out the hull of our own ship and then tells us that we should stop “making trouble” with “rude and irresponsible” claims.

Quote:China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said overnight: “We hope relevant parties will stop making trouble in front of China’s doorsteps and work with China to preserve the momentum of improving and growing China-Australia ties.”

Cunts. The only good commie is a dead one.
