They think of it as subtracting a billion from Gaben only and so it's free money since it can be "used" now on more deserving people who have a claim just because they agreed to work for Gaben. What happens withdrawing that billion and taking it from Gaben's hands doesn't matter because what matters is NOW, especially since in the long run we're all dead. Who would ever want a billion dollars sitting somewhere even just in a bank when everyone could have something now? Only dumbasses would want two candies in the future when they can have one candy now. And if there's problems in the future and we need more we can just take a billion candies from Gaben again probably. People don't change their behavior based on expectations, that's a chud myth.

Can Valve pay employees more? Maybe, I don't know, but you know what I do know? It's irrelevant. Truly. Gaben is one of the owners, who knows what share he owns but it's likely large because he funded Valve out of his Microsoft money in the first place. No matter what he's going to gain an outsized share of any Valve revenue because of that. They think Valve can run like a non-profit, just bringing in money and blowing it all on salaries immediately. Could it be run this way? I don't know and neither do they, and again, it's irrelevant.
