What's crazy about it that kind of response to me is that even if it's coming from a cishet white dude, then so what? The inherent message is one of loving women of a diverse range of backgrounds and appearances. Like it's the exact kind of mindset people have been fighting for to be adopted by men for years, and pushing back against it because it isn't "the right kind of person" making it is just backwards thinking (and that's even putting aside the fact that JoCat IS extremely supportive of those communities to begin with).

While many will see guilty as a win here it's a much more complicated discussion because the verdict establishes no intent to cause harm or harrass. The public opinion on this has really taken a few knocks with the video of him avoiding her and the texts which implicate him and then the media reporting this as a straight charge of guilt for sensational headlines.

Edit: anyone seeing this as career destroying might want to take a step back. While I personally think it's become fairly clear this guy is an abuser hollywood as a whole frequently is casting people with more serious guilty charges against them. Including Disney.

The stark contrast between ERA's reaction and attitude toward Jonathan Major's impropriety and nearly virtually any other star is something else. They took a very soft-handed approach, and were more than willing to entertain all sorts of whataboutisms to deflect and defend Majors. Half the people in those Jonathan Major threads should be perma banned for "dismissing concerns" and "whataboutism" based on ERA's past standards.

Hell, the sudden discovery of "Let's wait for evidence before we string the man up" for many in those Jonathan Major threads is hilarious if you know ERA's history regarding that line of thinking.

I've seen some people on Twitter earnestly say "If this video came from a lesbian it would be fine but fuck this white dude" and I.....really don't understand it? He's a cis man but he's gender nonconforming and has openly worn frilly/"feminine" outfits and dresses, and from my understanding he is extremely supportive of trans rights and lgbtq issues. It comes off as really gross gatekeeping to me from weirdos who think he's not "queer enough" in response to what is obviously a very silly tongue-in-cheek video.

I saw people joking on social media about the video in the last week or so, but it was merely a "I made this!" as a clear joke in which JoCat felt the need to directly reply to correct the user. I didn't figure JoCat was being harassed endlessly over the video, but I guess that explains the stress he was under that he didn't even see a joke as a joke.
