I have a macbook air (m1) that suddenly stopped recognizing the usb-c ports, so I couldn't charge it and eventually the battery went to 0. Went to computer store (An apple authorized store), they checked it and after a couple of days told me it was the logic board (ouch!) and that all data was lost (double ouch). I told them it was weird, because the computer was working, just not charging, and asked them to test more.

After a few days they asked me for my password to do the recovery which I gave. Just asked to recover what was in the \downloads folder as all other data was backed up. They recovered that folder, but then I became a bit paranoid as they had access to all my data and passwords. I talked to them in person and they said they didn't have access to my logins, they just connected the disk (through target disk mode), they never actually logged on to the desktop.

Since I was still paranoid, I started to look for signs of login, and found out that my computer was actually logged in (through google logins, and also whatsapp) for 40 minutes. I told them about this and they're being a bit vague on the emails.

I honestly think they lied because they don't want to admit that their data recovery was just login and copy paste the data, and out of lazyness and to give a false sense of security to the customer. I couldn't care less that they accessed the computer (I mean I did give them the password to recover data, so that was certainly a possibility), just that not looking at my data is based on trust, and they break that trust by lying to me.

I changed the more important passwords (real important things are 2FA), but I have hundreds of pass that I'm not changing :S What more can I do?

So I guess my CMOS is dead. I didn't do anything, I didn't open the computer up or touch a single hardware setting on this thing since the PC got here and it's already broken.

And people ask me why I fucking hate PC gaming - it's shit like this. Now I'm having an anxiety attack because I have no idea how to monitor this, fix it or make my computer work properly again. I'm terrified that the fans permanently running in this state are going to damage the computer more AND hurt my house's energy consumption.

You have to change the CMOS first because it wont save BIOS settings every time it boots up, it's pretty easy and painless to replace faulty CMOS battery yourself. You can change fan settings in BIOS with new CMOS.

I don't know literally anything about fan settings. I have no idea how to set these things properly especially when the computer has like 9 different fans in it. This is why I bought a prebuilt, so I wouldn't have to worry about this shit. It lasted a week and a half.

I'm so angry right now my blood feels like it's going to catch fire. I feel like I wasted $1500.
