I learned my lesson. I posted something that, after I took a step back, realized why it was interpreted badly but I was called things that made my jaw hit the floor. It messed me up for a week and I still don't feel right. Almost asked for an account ban for myself. It completely shattered me. I think it's best if I just post in this thread + Gaming only.

I'm going to sound like an old man yelling at clouds (which I am most of the time) but when I was younger I feel that it was possible to debate people, especially people with bad/unpopular ideas, with sound reasoning and get them to a point where they're willing to admit that maybe they were wrong. That's no longer the case. In today's world it's just so easy to for people with bad ideas retreat into safe spaces filled with like-minded people willing to tell them that their terrible ideas are great and that they should actually go farther that's it's mostly a waste of time to even try.

I hate to sound so defeatist but it's just the reality of the way most people are interacting with each other and the internet. I feel like it's a problem that just going to continue to get worse over time because I'm seeing more and not less fragmentation of social groups as I get older.

I was watching the news right about the Hamas and it was all about these tunnels they built. Love building tunnels don’t they that Hamas. It’s like their favourite thing. Building tunnels n that. Well, apart from be-heading babies. (Thigh slap. Slight chuckle. Pause for laughter.) Oh stop it! No, really. I shouldn’t say that. It sounds bad. 

But yeah. I was watching the news all about the Hamas and that and they had this spokesman on right. This Hamas spokesman was on and he said, “We don’t want war with Israel. OK, listen up.

I can see why you might not get the Brady ban at first glance. It seems like he is talking about the Houtis, and he could very well be, the problem is that no bombing campaign is without civilian casualties. Also, the post that Brady quoted specifically discussed the bombing of Yemen in general, which affects the citizenry beyond the Houtis. Knowing this, Brady is essentially conflating the Houtis with the average Yemini civilian who just wants to live their life.

Keep in mind, while we have banned people for going to bat for or downplaying the Houtis, that does not mean you get to conflate the average Yemini citizen with them. Discussing topics like this require a certain amount of tact, you cannot just shoot from the hip and expect everything to be ok.

They've engaged in discrimination against various religious minorities, ethnic cleansing, have child soldiers, and reinstated literal slavery among other things. Their slogan literally features the phrase "A curse upon the Jews." These are not good people. Hell, just saying that is downplaying how bad they are.

Regardless of how you feel about the situation in Gaza, cheering these people on is a no go. It is totally unacceptable. They are taking advantage of the situation to escalate their actions and using the people of Palestine as a cover.

From this point on, anyone cheering these guys on, defending them, rationalizing their actions, or in any way whitewashing them is going to get a huge ban. How big will it be? You'll be lucky if we let you back in.

Honestly, this is exhausting. Since Israel has started its invasion of Gaza we have had to ban people for the following: blatant antisemitism, dismissing sexual assault, downplaying the actions of terrorist groups in regards to the treatment of kidnapped hostages despite hostage testimony, conspiracy theories, posting neo-nazis from twitter, platforming conspiracy theory outlets, and so on and so forth. It should go without saying that just because the IDF and Israeli government are engaging in horrific actions that we should not engage in antisemitism or any other sort of bigotry but this is something we've had to say a number of times at this point. Just because social media thinks bigotry is ok doesn't mean it is.
