Sometimes I kind of wish Lady Dimitrescu was never a thing because I feel the response to her encouraged Capcom to regress from their plans that got leaked years back.

From Capcom going through the Bandai Namco handbook of "Never allow your women to age over 30" rulebook with Resident Evil (seriously, the fuck why with that awful movie, I really that movie doesn't block older portrayals of Jill and Claire), from the horny designs with Dragon's Dogma 2, SF6 DLC and others and just everything when it comes to the diversity of women feels shallow. While Marisa is heavily implied to be pan, I feel current Capcom will never flat out state it unlike what Arksys and NetherRealm have done so not to upset the part of the fandom their clearly also wanting to market to. I really doubt Capcom will ever allow a fat or old woman be playable.

Also with the news of MatPat is finishing with Game Theory, there has been something that has been bugging me about him. Years back, he did a video justifying the objectification and sexualization of the DOA series and one thing he pulled was that "Women never played DOA" so it didn't matter. I've seen this same statement several time from FGC and it infuriates me every time because yes, women DID play DOA during the DOA3 and 4 days, most of them just got pushed out or got more uncomfortable as Team Ninja pushed it more and more and the FGC decided to revise history to erase them. Even then it was utter shit but hey, he's a "clever" white man so we must praise him! Even if he constantly gets basic science and history facts wrong to twist his theories, praise, praise!!!!

Sphinx aside, all of the female NPCs we've seen have been on the muted side as far as sexualization goes and yet still brimming with personality. I have high hopes for the game, to the point where I've already asked for 1 week vacation for this, and I suspect I'm going to end up doing a write-up on the game's female characters like I did for the Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous female party members a couple years back.

I don't want to do large-scale combat. Period, end of story. I HATE the combat in this game. It gives me gigantic anxiety attacks. I literally almost shattered the glass surface of my desk with my fist earlier, that's how angry this combat makes me.

I just want this shitty section of the game to be done. I want to be free from this hell. I've been stuck in this stupid base for almost two weeks now and I have not progressed even slightly. Every single thing I do either fails outright, or inexplicably provokes a massive melee against the entire base, which I do not want to do and will not survive if I try to do it, even on Explorer difficulty.

I have been bashing my head against this for such a long time that all I want is for it to be over. The only solutions I want are solutions that result in me not having to fight anything. Does that make sense?

Hey guys, I'm playing this highly praised game Super Mario Bros. and the combat is giving me gigantic anxiety attacks. I'm right at the start and I've been stuck here for two weeks now and I think I'm done. What happens is I start to walk forward towards what appears to be a floating row of bricks when this little mushroom like guy walks at me. AND. HE. DOESN'T. STOP. Then he one hits me instantly upon combat. I've tried literally everything to avoid combat with him but it seems like there's no way to not aggro him and the floating bricks seem to be funneling me into combat. This is just terrible design. I almost put my fist through the wall and my roommates are bothering me with "son is something wrong down there? Does dad need to reset your RAM again?" This is why I hate PC gaming and I'm so frustrated that I can barely even watch YouTube at work thinking about that mushroom guy and how everyone says this game is a classic.

Welp. I'm done with Baldur's Gate 3. Just too much unfair bullshit for me to put up with anymore. Further proof that Larian and I cannot mix at all, it seems.

Guess I need to find a new PC game to put some time into.

For additional context: PlanetSmasher rushed to a marginally difficult (I am being gracious here) combat arena instead of exploring the map in order to level/gear up. Where he’s at is essentially a large dungeon in which you’re supposed to kill three targets and save an ally; the encounters he’s complaining about are fairly simple as this is the first legitimate challenge the game presents you.

I don't even have any quests pointing me to the Underdark, nor do I have any idea of why I need to go there. The only quests I have are related to this stupid camp and fighting a hag who I already know will destroy me.

My party's level 4 right now and they're completely worthless against groups of goblins. I tried to ambush Ragzlin during his little speech and he took two damage (meaning he has 70 HP left) and aggro'd the entire room in the process. Within two enemy actions, half of my party was below half health. I just cannot deal with the stress of all these insane group encounters. We can't do any meaningful damage and with even a tiny bit of sustained pressure my characters shred like they're made of wet toilet paper.

I don't know how people are dealing with this but it's just too much for me and it feels like absolutely nothing I can do is turning the tide in my favor. This shit is why I hate Larian combat. I always feel like it's a series of total party wipes until you luck out with a series of die rolls that lets you not die.

I don't have a spell like that. Wyll is pretty much worthless outside of direct damage.

I really don't know what to do. I can't get around any of these encounters, I'm genuinely having like actual explosive rage attacks every time my entire party gets decimated in seconds by huge swarms of enemies. Nothing I have is working, nothing I try to do helps. I'm not having fun, I'm just genuinely furious.

I wish I could get my money back. This area has been such an awful experience that any goodwill I had from previous parts of the game has evaporated. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but every single thing I try has been an abject failure and I can't keep bashing myself against a brick wall when it's clear the game does not want me to progress in any way.

Ya know I don't think I ever saw him post anything positive about video games, always negative.  Dude should just give up on video games in general or he's gonna end up being bald from always being angry

like maybe i was lucky that when i used to play I had a pretty game designer-y dm but I thought understanding the mechanics of the game was part of the gig.

dnd combat rules are pretty straightforward atm and the game makes it super easy to understand and follow. typically most character classes get some pretty high impact shit by level four. you would have to be deliberately trying to self-sabotage with the shittiest character on earth, or just be plain thick when playing the encounters.

I have come to suspect that there's a good chunk of people online who talk about how great they are at DMing while rarely having actually done it except for themselves. I really don't know anything about tabletop RPGs but through other realms I've come into contact or knowing about a handful of people who talk constantly about this and "RPG systems" design and real world systems as if they're RPG systems and they're always talking about campaigns they're designing. I think one (1) of them I've seen proof of actually playing with other people one time.

Now, I'm not saying that anyone who says this online is like this, I'm talking about a specific type of person. I can easily go into RPG spaces and find people who clearly are doing things with other people. But there's a certain level of braggart with these traits and they're almost always talking purely about being DMs and how great they are at it, never as players or anything. And they're always awesome and know better than everyone else, often on any topic that comes up, not just RPGs.

There's a large class of people who are obsessed with controlling opinion of themselves and I have a theory that the internet and social media because you can control what you post grants an illusion to this type of person that they have complete control over how they can present themselves to people. The problem, of course, is that other people can remember what they've said. So I'm not surprised that when this type has an interest in RPGs it's as a DM and little else.

Can I also point out that broad stuff like "always remember that you matter" and "you are awesome" is not helpful either? It's encouraging narcissism, not improving your mental health.

Not mattering is actually pretty great, there's no stress when you don't matter. If somebody needs brain surgery, I don't matter and that's great for me! Imagine how stressed I'd be trying to do something I have no clue about (aside from a 50/50 shot at identifying the brain) and would really not enjoy doing! Thinking you matter so much that you need to permanently solve every problem in human history once and for all is one of this population's problems. Especially when they make it personal and think that unless life is perfect everyone has failed and should therefore be depressed, nihilist and destructive.

It's the same thing with "you are awesome" which no, you're not. This is meaningless. There is no objective ranking and this encourages you to think of one. You want to not do natural ranking? Well, if everyone is awesome, then you aren't. And now you feel bad about it because you wanted to be awesome and you're not. Instead what you are, or should be, is unique. I was pretty awesome at Medic in TF2, LeBron James is awesome at basketball, ZeoVGM is awesome at correcting people about She-Hulk, etc. Which person is most awesome? It depends. I'd swap with LeBron but not Jeff, would Jeff or LeBron swap with either of the other two? We can claim LeBron "matters" more from some kind of objective standpoint but what we're really saying is that he's more popular because basketball is more popular than TF2 15 years ago or defending the MCU from chuds so this is just a tautology. And remember, we don't necessary want to matter. Jeff might want to matter as much as LeBron so he can spread The Good Word but he doesn't want to matter more at basketball, that's just a means to an end.

Well, then we should want to start ranking everything that exists by what matters most, except no two people have the same preference ordering something that many people who want to matter and reorder all of life for everyone to be "perfect" refuse to believe. But even taking this direction doesn't help tell you who matters or who is awesome. Take the most important thing in the world, the fact that multiple inline spoilers don't work on The Bire, then the rankings would favor me over both Jeff and LeBron even though it's hard to say I'm awesome when I've failed to do anything but ponder how I might achieve this. So when it comes to the most important thing in life, I matter but am not awesome, neither Jeff nor LeBron is either. See how we're worse off than if we hadn't thought about it and the immoral crime that is the spoilers on The Bire?

It's a psychological trick, a bit of reverse psychology. Lovebombing doesn't work because it draws your attention to how you'll fall short of those things. You know it's not true, you suspect everyone else knows it's not true (hence why someone is lovebombing everyone in a non-specific way rather than complimenting you personally on something unique to you) and so when you search for confirmations of its truth you'll come up short. If this is starting to sound like an underlying problem manifest across the ResetERA.com population especially among the higher castes that run Bartertown, well, yes, I agree. As I've tried to argue before they're status obsessed (while constantly projecting this onto everyone else) and this is not a winnable game.

Pumping up your "self-esteem" with delusions and fantasy is the boom before the bust, it only makes the bust worse.
