The funny part is that some witnessess, who were women, said back in the day that the ship broke in half before the sinking.

But men mansplained to them how that wasn't possible and so the prevailing theory ended up being that the ship sunk in one piece.

And just a page later someone explains that this is complete BS and there were male and female witnesses claiming it broke apart, they just weren't believed over the experienced seaman

Basically, AI trained solely on public domain imagery. Sort of thing Adobe Firefly  AI was trained (they used their own stock footage).

Slavery is a huge plot point in Final Fantasy 16. 'Bearers', humans that can use magic without the help of crystals, don't have human rights in Valisthea and they're mostly used as tools. The game makes a point of showing the extensive mistreatment of Bearers. The thing about Bearers that made me a bit uncomfortable is that Square Enix seems to have borrowed from slavery in the United States specifically. Obviously, slavery as a whole has existed for thousands of years but I would argue the writers were inspired by black history.

This is a game were NPC's spit out the word 'bearer' any time they see one. It's also a game that has characters hunting bearers with dogs and it even has some lynching. The game also shows that the bigotry is far worse in rural towns than in the cities. All that together with the specific high medieval time period makes for some unfortunate parallels. I am by no means stating that bearers are completely analogous to black slaves, but I'm also fairly sure that if the game did feature black bearers in some of these situations clips of it would have gone viral.

Well, let's hope that this brings about the change that is needed to prevent this from happening in the future. My parents visited the Harland & Wolf museum a couple years back and marveled at their Titanic exhibit. Why couldn't these folks have just taken a trip to Belfast or Southhampton if they were so eager to get their Titanic fix?

Because people this wealthy look at that and go, "That's for fucking peasants lol." They're bored and they have to find new ways to flaunt and brag about their wealth, doing shit like this. I wonder how many times they even appreciate what the hell they see and do during these kinds of trips and how much is just to be able to tell people they did it.

I'm pleasantly surprised this didn't get a 90+. More reviewers should call them out for the lack of non-white people and the terrible treatment of the few female characters in the game.

Hopefully Square Enix will finally get out of their edgelord boys club phase with FF XVII in 2028 or so. Maybe next time women will be allowed to do *something* besides being abused and rescued by the main white male character. Perhaps a woman could even be the next FF protagonist. Can you imagine it?

Anyway, I guess I will keep waiting for FF VII Rebirth in the meantime. I can't believe a 1997 game is more diverse than a 2023 game, but here we are.

Not sure why Ree even cares about this FF review score. In 4 months they’ll be calling it total shite and worst FF ever like they did with the last one, and probably all the others before that. For the record I have played FF7 original, did the first part and quit. The FF7 remake. Did the intro. Killed the robot thing then got so pissed off with the constant hand holding and interruption to the action I quit. So didn’t even make it to the first city/hub. Played a fair bit of the last FF. Well, I did the bits around the garage and went to the resort, did a spot of fishing. Quit, never went back

Can we get a reason why the Secret Invasion AI thread was closed? Seems to be no explanation ~30 min after it was locked. It's absolutely newsworthy.
