Being a person shouldn't be hard, but apparently it is. And what really kills me is how eager people are to use ideology to hide behind, as if that doesn't hurt the larger movement and make the rest of us look bad.

Personally, I've always wondered why submarines don't have easy access escape hatches. What if you need to get out quickly while your down there?!?

Apparently they didn't have these on the space shuttle either? WTF?

[hide]Having had some of these talks about escape. The depth of water you escape from a sub in is in the 10s of feet (edit: theoretically) and then you have about seven minutes in the Atlantic before you drown because of hypothermia.[/hide]

Further Edit because beer: The distance covered by the average swimmer during the time the average person could hold their breath under those conditions are both much less than one would think. The moral of the story was, if anything were to happen while submerged at all, one would be fucked.

I still emphasize Sony really fu*ked up their decision to set the VRR window so bloody high. If it was at 40 and not 48, dev's might be more incentived to aim for it as the de facto 'quality' mode.

But no, it just had to be 48 which is way too close to 50 territory. Real L move.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jun/21/china-is-state-most-dangerous-to-its-own-citizens-civil-rights-report-finds wrote:China has been ranked as the worst country in the world for safety from the state and the right to assembly, in a human rights report that tracks social, economic and political freedoms.

The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), a New Zealand-based project, has been monitoring various countries’ human rights performance since 2017.

In 2022, HRMI started tracking freedom of religion and belief for the first time. China also scored worst on this indicator, although the pilot study only covered nine countries.

HRMI concluded that on several measures China was the country in the world with the worst human rights record. On freedom from arbitrary arrest, only Kazakhstan scored worse.

...

The index does point out that people in certain groups in China, such as critics of the government and ethnic minorities, often miss out on basic economic rights.

...

Hong Kong has dropped down HRMI’s index in recent years. Although it does not score as badly as China, it has seen a rapid decrease in many rights since the crackdown on the pro-democracy movement in 2019 and 2020. Between those years its ranking on the freedom of assembly index declined by nearly 40%, and on the freedom of expression index by 33%, according to HRMI.

HRMI also concluded Hong Kong’s score on the freedom from arbitrary arrest index had improved, increasing by 85%. But this was because the index was based on instances of actual rights violations, said Kehoe Rowden. “In this repressive context, the rise in scores for freedom from arbitrary arrest and detention is not good news. It just means that the repression is working.
Whatever their difficulties due to capitalism, I bet the minorities in China aren't sitting around contemplating if they need to flee the country like Kyuuji and other trans people in the U.K.
