It's the entire tech industry right now and some other industries as well. Lots of M&As because 50/60 year old owners are not in the mood to rebuild after COVID and none of the new owners have a clue what they're actually buying, except for the expected returns which look good enough on paper but are hail mary best case scenarios. 

After they close the deal they find out that some of the important people have already left or plan to resign, they discover the meaning of 'technical debt' and the contracts aren't as solid as they thought. The owner usually did a lot of the heavy lifting and actual work, something the new folks don't actually intend to do as they are all looking for 'passive income', leaving customers dissapointed and employees lost, demoralized or angry as they were promised 'nothing would change'. 

I had to explain to quite a few new owners as of late that they couldn't just cut our services or stop paying for them because their entire business runs on it and their clients wouldn't be happy to lose all their data and could sue them.

I've also heard stories about domains and Amazon server contracts and such expiring because credit cards weren't renewed taking down all kinds of essential services.

here's the thing, if you're not a fucking lazy moron company drone, you run it locally and it will never freak out when the company you're subscribing to randomly tweaks things behind the scenes and fucks it all up

if you run it yourself you have total control, can be backed up and restored in case of emergency, and costs one lump sum for a good PC and GPU rather than a constant subscription

only thing is that local models are a little worse than ChatGPT but getting better all the time, Mistral is creating some amazing stuff

What’s uncomfortable to admit is promoting inexperienced people tends to have consequences. It’s always been the case, but lately both ends of this woke thing focused in on “diverse” hires.

Chris Nolan spoke about how the preferred path for young directors breaking into Hollywood is a small indie, a moderate studio picture, and building up from there. Ryan Coogler, Greta Gerwig, and others had that same path. Getting some babe in the woods director on a $200 million studio tentpole is setting them up for failure. You also can't blame audiences for failing to accept the diversity when other "diverse" movies and TV series have done exceptionally well.

One theory is Disney get them cos a novice indie director will be more happy to go along with whatever dog shit they're given and not push back against the studio like a more seasoned one may do.
