There's zero room for nuance in left circles when it comes to discussing Israel. As a Liberal who gets shit from my republican family as to how Liberal I am, since October 7th I feel utterly betrayed by the left.

To preface, Israel is 100% guilty of war crimes, and violating the rights of the Palestinian's. For every Hamas member they might kill, more innocents die.

Like Gaza, Israel also gets routinely bombed by Hamas, and if it wasn't for the Iron Dome, the Israeli causality rate would be very high. For fucks sake, Israel gets so many rocket attacks it's become routine for them, they literally have bomb shelters in their playgrounds for kids.

If you bring this up, you get accused by people on the left of "both sidings" the conflict.

Leftie's love having an Americanized view of the conflict calling Israel "white colonizers" and referring to Palestian's as brown, when literally half of Israel are Sefardi/Mizhari Jews. You can literally put a bunch of Israeli's and Palestinian's in the same room without any ethnic clothing, and you couldn't tell them apart (I speak from experience) Both Israeli's and Arabs come in different skin tones, some are white-looking, while some are darker skinned.

If you bring up the fact that Zionism means different things to different people, you get labeled a Zionist like it's some dirty slur. I'm sick of non-Jews telling me that Zionism isn't Judaism, when it in fact is intertwined with the faith. The return to Zion is literally the core belief in Judaism. Most Jews are Zionists to varying degrees, because the term means something specific to each of them.

Even those ultra-orthodox Rabbis who say their anti-zionist (the ones the media love pulling out on TV) believe in the concept of Zionism in their own way, they just believe the modern state of Israel shouldn't exist until the arrival of the Messiah, and anything before that is a sin.

If you bring up the absurd amount of casual and not so casual antimism in liberal circles since October 7th, you get hit with "deh Jews Zionists are just trying to distract with what's happening in Gaza, or it's not that serious."

Criticise the Israeli government all you want. More power to you. Screw Bibi and his right-wing party. That doesn't give people the right to shit on Jews, attack buildings associated with Jews, label everything they don't like as Zionist, and cheer on the destruction of Israel.

Don't forgot all the Arab Countries surrounding Israel, which expelled many of its Jews who had nowhere to go but Israel. That's pretty important too. Jewish people in those countries had their own version similar to the Palestinian Nakba, no matter what revisionist history people try to spew.

Nepenthe response isn't surprising at all. Like many people on the left, I'm sure inwardly they were cheering on October 7th as "resistance."

I don't expect you to understand, considering you're the same person who walked into this Alec Baldwin thread calling him "Zionist Scum" (how do you define a Zionist, btw), which had absolutely fuck all to do with anything in the thread. The funniest thing is that the only thing Baldwin has said about the conflict is how he wishes for peace in the region.

My local synagogue was also vandalized with the words "Zionist Scum," and Zionist Pigs, but I'm sure you'll tell me how that wasn't antisemitism.

FORGET GENOCIDE JOE IT'S GAMERCIDE TIME  

GAMING COMPANIES ARE coordinating with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to root out so-called domestic violent extremist content, according to a new government report. Noting that mechanisms have been established with social media companies to police extremism, the report recommends that the national security agencies establish new and similar processes with the vast gaming industry.

The exact nature of the cooperation between federal agencies and video game companies, which has not been previously reported, is detailed in a new Government Accountability Office report. The report draws on interviews conducted with five gaming and social media companies including Roblox, an online gaming platform; Discord, a social media app commonly used by gamers; Reddit; as well as a game publisher and social media company that asked the GAO to remain anonymous.

The report reveals that the DHS intelligence office meets with gaming companies and that the companies can use these meetings to “share information with I&A [DHS’s intelligence office] about online activities promoting domestic violent extremism,” or even simply “activities that violate the companies’ terms of service.” Through its 56 field offices and hundreds of resident agencies subordinate field offices, the FBI receives tips from gaming companies of potential law-breaking and extremist views for further investigation. The FBI also conducts briefings to gaming companies on purported threats.

The GAO warns that FBI and DHS lack an overarching strategy to bring its work with gaming companies in line with broader agency missions. “Without a strategy or goals, the agencies may not be fully aware of how effective their communications are with companies, or how effective their information-sharing mechanisms serve the agencies’ overall missions,” the GAO says. The report ends with a recommendation that both agencies develop such a strategy — a recommendation that DHS concurred with, providing an estimated completion date of June 28 this year.

The GAO study also follows pressure from Congress to top gaming companies to crack down on extremist content. Last March, Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-Ill., sent letters to gaming companies Valve, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Riot Games, Roblox Corp, and Take-Two Interactive demanding that they take actions to police gamers.

“Unlike more traditional social media companies — which in recent years have developed public facing policies addressing extremism, created trust and public safety teams, and released transparency reports — online gaming platforms generally have not utilized these tools,” Durbin wrote in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. In the letter, Durbin requested a briefing from the Justice Department on what channels exist “for DOJ and the online video game industry to communicate and coordinate” on the threat of “online video games by extremists and other malicious actors.”

The Anti-Defamation League has testified to Congress multiple times about extremists’ use of gaming platforms. In 2019, ADL’s then-senior vice president of international affairs, Sharon Nazarian, was asked by Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., if gaming platforms “are monitored” and if there’s “a way AI can be employed to identify those sorts of conversations.”

Nazarian replied that gaming platforms “need to be better regulated.”

Shame after proposing solutions on critical issues is that a lot of ERA's discourse has a tendency to devolve into seeking gold in the victim/pity Olympics rather than healthy dialogue on how to make it work and what step-by-step solutions to take; not to dismiss anyone's grievances and traumas here but trying to talk over someone who has issues with whatever relative status quo is causing problems in their lives just reeks of main character syndrome.

What would an "all-hands on deck" meeting accomplish? Or even be necessary for? The staff can either support anti-semitism, ethnic cleansing, sex slavery, imposed autocratic states, colonial era borders, etc. or not. And anyone who opposes the opposite of that can move on for being a bad fit. Let the current staff members make their positions known by whether they stay or not.

She wasn't forced into it, she wasn't abused, she didn't do drugs. She was highly educated. It was her choice.
