I want to give the benefit of the doubt and not be cynical but....yeah.  I'm not sure how else to view this.

Your two threads are directly related to comments as part of the acquisition, and thus, are referred to the main OT.

We are *trying* to make exceptions for certain topics that have discussion value other than “this person said this in relation to the merger”. In the case of the other threads you linked, it’s information about actual upcoming games, monetary figures on released titles, and acquisitions of companies that isn’t strictly related to Microsoft buying Activision…so we are trying to allow them as separate threads. If people console war and troll in them then they will be closed though.

I also want to note, if we are forced to lock the threads due to warring and trolling then we'll be severely banning anyone caught doing it.

Speaking for myself here, the constant warring is exhausting and while this is a temporary situation (either it'll happen in a few weeks or it won't and everyone is going to have to live with the outcome) the energy with which people have been trolling and console warring has gone up exponentially. Derailing whole threads, firing off insane accusations, it's like some people lost all their sense as a result of all this. That said, it's a temporary situation and hopefully after it's over the fever will break and everyone will come to their senses.

I do want to give a shoutout to those posters who have tried to be the voice of reason and have tried to cool the temperature by talking sense and reason to the fever. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed and we deeply appreciate what you've been trying to do. We might be able to ban people and cool temps that way, but whenever we wade into a thread to try and talk to people we're seen as an authority instead of as peers. People seeing their peers push back against the fever has a real value and I just wanted to say how much we appreciate that. It's not easy and can take a lot of courage, trust me I've been there myself before. I just wanted to make our appreciation known.

i was actually going to make a post about this - i can totally see this being the case. awhile back, he posted a thread where he basically apologised for being "a burden" on everyone.

it's another case where the mod team has created an issue for themselves. if they had treated him like everyone else on the site, it wouldn't have gone this far. if they had used the warning option more frequently, perhaps he would have realized that his posts aren't even bad, they are just SO numerous that people can't just ignore him. if they had banned him a few times early on, maybe it would have shaped his posting habits. at this point, it's the same as it is for lots of ppl on there: they have made their posting on era their identity, whether it's shill for a company, person who tries to drop a "first post best post" candidate, or whatever.

i never got the impression that anyone on staff reached out to him and said "hey, dial it back a bit. we know that it's your personality, and you're not intending for it to disrupt the site, but at some point we have to action you." i've never had, or spoken to anyone who's had, an interaction with the staff that i would characterize as "constructive guidance. just banning and ignoring tickets. if they did, and he kept it up? just an unfortunate situation. i really hope someone on staff that he listens to would lay it out to him, because if he was kept from dominating threads about things he dislikes, he'd be a totally fine poster.

This has been the way that community operated whenever someone public's been accused of something since forever. Why whine about it now? I can't count the number of times someone accused someone else of something on a social media post and GAF/ERA ran with it without a second thought. Anyone that dared say "I'll wait for evidence" or express anything other that full throated belief of the initial accusation were quickly dogpiled and banned for "dismissing concerns". That has been the culture since ERA began, hell even back during the GAF days

Only now when their new, favorite MCU star is in this situation they love to jump to conclusions on when they suddenly re-discover the concept of "waiting to hear all the facts."
