I do always love when people are like "OH, people in my profession? People like me? People who do what I do? Yeah, we should be able to do whatever we want, no consequences." Comedians do the same shit.

Confused

Don't people doing a job have a more valid take on how that job is done than people who don't, though?

The whole point of the question is that you can easily justify any of the answers through any of our various ideological frameworks. The very point of the question is to show us that our various frameworks do not encompass everything and cannot account for every possible situation and thus, by their very nature, not impartial or definitive.

The fact you're looking at it this way shows that you have actively fallen into the trap the author is trying to warn us about.

Quote:The point is that we ALL have biases and that as a result it is impossible to be truly objective. Basically, we have to be willing to consider other points of view or the fact that our own view might be entirely wrong in the first place.

Creating an ideological framework that is truly objective and just in all circumstances is essentially impossible.

Quote:Through that logic, giving it to child A means that they can then teach the other two how to play it and child B could then make more of them. At the end they'd all have flutes and know how to play.

The point is any of the options could reasonably be correct. There's no wrong answer, just like there's no right answer.

The idea is there's no single ideological perspective that accounts for all of this because they all have their biases, just as we as individuals do. As a result we need to be willing to consider other ideas and the fact that we might potentially be wrong in a given situation.

Bit weird to see the fucking general manager of resetterradotcomellellsee - of all places - making arguments for moral relativism, innit?

Not quite sure how you're meant to double blind test puberty blockers. It's gonna be pretty obvious when one group is on placebos.

That's also an example of the blatant disinformation they allow on trans topics. Because a propagandist went through and highlighted certain words they'll ignore the other listed problems with all the studies that are visible in the screenshot.

Isn't the point of the Cass review the medical value of gender affirming treatment, not the efficacy of puberty blockers?

They don't care, their belief is that it's always necessary and therefore always outweighs the known harms from the puberty blockers. They simply aren't going to accept anything that says otherwise.

Spoiler: Ending A (click to show)
You handed the flute to Child A and she played a beautiful song. As she danced until the early hours she attracted a pack of wolfs. When you woke up the child was gone. You followed a blood trail into a cave. All you could recover was the flute broken in half, as the wind howled.

Spoiler: Ending B (click to show)
You handed the flute to Child B who was obsessed by it. They locked themselves in their room and vowed not to come out until they knew the flute was safe. Days, weeks and months passed by as the meager food supplies ran out. The mother of the child pleaded: 'Please dear child leave your room' but the child refused. When you returned to the village you found out the child died of starvation.

Spoiler: Ending C (click to show)
The Child was happy with the kind gift and ran off with the flute. As he took off the other children cursed at him. When he returned home to show the flute to his parents he discovered their dead bodies. As he ran out crying he dropped the flute behind him. The flute was burried beneath the sand, no one would ever play it again.

Spoiler: Ending D (click to show)
You shared the flute among the children, giving each of them a chance to play it. As the soothing music faded the flute had cursed all the children. Slowly the curse drained the life and joy out of any child who played it until they were emotionless husks doomed to wander a dying world for eternity until their bones turned to dust.

Spoiler: Ending E (click to show)
You kept the flute and started playing it. The children acted as though they didn't mind and danced to the music. After you left they quickly ran off to the village chief to accuse you of abusing them. At the village entrance a mob was waiting, armed with torches and spears. They pierced your heart and set your body ablaze.

Why a flute? As far as I know flutes are not terribly easy to make. It had to have taken Child B like half their life to make that flute. It just seems criminal to give it to Child A who is going to grab it and rip out Aqualung in B’s face. Or child C who is going to pawn it down the street.

Frankly the flute is a great musical instrument in terms of songs that goes fweep fweep bong ding beep boop when you wrap your lips around it and blow it hard. It should be up to the people and not the federal government to decide who gets to play that beautiful flute.
