I'm 22, so I'm around the middle of Gen z, and I got into retro gaming because when I was a kid it was just cheaper to buy gamecube and n64 games then it was to get a PS3 or Xbox or even buy wii games a lot of the time, and GBA games instead of DS games. Add in that I also game on a low specs laptop most of the time, and it just makes sense to play older games, even stuff that was out before I was born. Basically, it's ingrained in my brain to just play smaller and older games instead of massive blockbusters

I think this is a huge part of it. When people engage with media as a little kid, they may not UNDERSTAND the themes. They'll digest them and sometimes internalize them, but they won't know they're doing it yet because they aren't old or developed enough to actively exercise that part of their mind, and that leads to stuff becoming "time locked" in their brains to the way they remember experiencing it in the nostalgia center of their brains.

Using myself as an example, when I was very little, I was terrified of Star Wars. I could not watch the movies until I was probably 12 or 13, so I don't have that early-childhood association with Star Wars a lot of folks have. I eventually got around to watching the movies when the Special Editions came out, but I don't have that same deep, personal CONNECTION to Star Wars that a lot of folks my age have. It was just a movie I watched. I wound up more invested in the 90s novels than in the movies, weirdly.

I'm not going to expect people to know who created Fallout. That's a rather deepcut and gives more clues. But, I guess the Overton Window has shifted so much that even hints of progressivism from the 90s is seen as "woke".

It's really an age issue. We're quite far removed from Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas (probably the peak of the franchise gaming wise).
Even Fallout 4 is a decade old at this point.

People that play those games or watch the show without knowing the history of the franchise (or indeed having played them before) will certainly look at the material through a different lens. 

I feel a lot of this has to do with COVID, which sort of froze the world for 2 - 4 years in total. Society is now waking up to the fact that the world changes much more rapidly than it did during those years and that if you don't move forward you're going to be left behind in the past.

I think the simplest answer is that there's a far greater intersection point between "gamers" and "terminally online folks" than there is for fans of other forms of media. That's not to say film bros can't be terminally online (god, look at Youtube), but at scale, it feels like gamers are the MOST terminally online of any fans of media.

Found a dog who posts on resetera

New account for obvious reasons, bit embarrasing.

Got a new rescue dog 3 weeks ago.

He’s come along massively in his training, he’s doing tricks and his recall is much better, he’s pretty much whistle trained infact. I like to think Im good with dogs,and I’ve been home pretty much constantly to train him- but this one issue persists..

It started with my dog interrupting when my boyfriend and I kiss/cuddle. I’ve said to ignore him, don’t even push him off but my boyfriend thinks it’s cute so he fusses him sometimes. Then we were, getting intimate upstairs and he bowled and barked and cried non stop - unusual for him - and he’s terrified of stairs but he charged up and ran into the bedroom which obviously killed the mood. We tried again, and the same thing happened so I said just ignore him, and he whined and clawed and tried to force himself between us.

This has been incredibly frustrating, so I took some time to be intimate with myself, and the slightest moan set him off and he came barrelling upstairs to clamber on my head (I was alone, so he knew no one was hurting me?) I obviously texted my partner to vent, and he sheepishly confessed that you cannot wank anywhere in the house- he will almost alert, if he can’t get to you he’ll scratch and bark and whine non stop, and if he can he will just sit on you or claw at you or howl.

So it’s not just sex, it’s also masturbation. Any kid of sexual noise/activity seems to set him off. I’ve tried (god this is embarrassing) making sex noises often, to show him it’s okay and desensitise him but it still upsets him just as much and he’ll climb on me or claw at my head. I’m not even spectacularly loud or anything when I’m doing this, and my partner makes no noise so he thinks it’s his breathing? Pheromone smell?

I realise it’s early days so I want to nip this in the bud- he’s not even 2 and he’s a rescue borador if this helps. He is not interested in treats or food at all when this is happening, we even loaded a kong with ham and cheese and 0 interest. We’ve given him valerian compound to calm him down, nothing. We are working on securing the garden so he can be left outside, but that’s a plaster on a pothole for this training issue. We put the tv on full volume and it’s like he just knows, doesn’t matter where we do it.

Any advice?

TLDR: my dog won’t let me shag, I’ve tried everything I know. Getting to the point we are considering banging in the car.

I’m not saying this as a positive or negative. Google is so vital to the online landscape, any sort of boycott is nearly impossible. Looking into it the other day, there are guides and services to “ungoogle” yourself but  most is still using google framework and limiting certain components. That’s all to say, it’s a lost battle. 

Furthermore, several years back there was the Damore fella’s memo. All about Google’s discriminatory culture against conservative politics, Whites, and Asians. These people fired thought they could get away with it, because they have for 99% of other causes. Ideally there would be a reversal and reexamination of the 99% after noting these people are wackos. But realistically it’s just the Israel topic that’s taboo.
