The part about it that blows my mind is just that I legitimately cannot see why this game justifies such spirited defense. Maybe it's because I am not particularly interested in sci-fi or the post-apocalypse, but it just looks like a game that excels at literally nothing except misogyny and seeing so many people line up to defend it before they even play it just really throws my brain for a loop.

Why couldn't this level of hype be attached to something like Lies of P or Rise of the Ronin? Why is THIS the game that people are so supportive of?

There was a very well received demo and great review scores you nonce, and now people in the topic for it are playing it and loving it too

But yeah, as for the game, I'm sure there COULD be aspects of it that people find enjoyable (I personally think the combat and monster designs look really dull and uninspired but that's me specifically), but the level of furious defensiveness the fanbase has for the game feels wildly disproportionate.

Like when I like a game that's kind of controversial I usually just try to talk about the aspects of it that I enjoyed and I don't get angry when someone doesn't like it. I just...try to communicate the bits that I think are cool. There's no game out there that EVERYONE likes. There's no great benefit in getting defensive over someone else not liking a thing that you like.

Hi Era!

Over the past few months, I've ended up what I think is a situationship that I haven't been sure how to navigate. You all helped me through a prior relationship thread and I figured to post about my current situation. I've been seeing a girl since back in December and things were going great. We both share similar interests/have great dates, she's been so helpful through the passing of my cat, and has qualities that I thought I wanted. Well, up until recently.

I've had a few incidents that came up as red flags:

We've been talking since we met and still feels like we've been in a standstill to become official. She told me she wanted to get to know, which is fair, and have had dates 1-3 times a week since December. I asked her the other night if she wanted to become official and she still said no. She even told me a story about how she's talked about me to her family and best friend - with her friend, who's apparently mad at the girl I'm talking to because she hasn't made herself official with me (saying I'm extremely nice, has the qualities she's looking for, etc.).

She snapped at me recently a few times, unexpectedly. The big one was regarding her phone. We were laying in her bed late at night, talking and I noticed she stopped talking/got intense with her phone. I looked at her screen (she has looked at my phone before, so I thought that kind of trust was established, but I might have been mistaken) and saw she was in some argument with someone (I think it was a guy); my first instinct was asking if everything was okay with her. She looked at me and screamed that I'm never allowed to look at her phone. It made me feel super uncomfortable and I mentioned that she's looked at mine but I'd totally respect that/didn't intend to cause trouble, but she was pretty intense about it.

She also snapped at me going to a baseball game that I purchased - we pulled into a handicap parking lot lane by accident and I started looking behind me (I was passenger in car) wondering if we could back up while she started talking to the attendant. I only said it once and she turned to scream my name in an angry voice. That caused an awkward silence.

She also has said weird things to me during romance - NSFW warning ahead. During sex, a couple times during the act, she yelled at me that I'm doing something wrong/yelling no, I'd back off immediately and then she'd get mad that I softened up. I've told her how important consent is to me and I felt uncomfortable/lost the urge because she wanted things to be done differently/said no. It turns into a weird thing of her getting a bit aggressive to me even though I'm respecting when she yells at me. This also happens with kissing - we tongue kissed the other night, she started saying no no NO aggressive and said you need to tongue kiss like this, which made me feel so uncomfortable. She's also made weird comments such as after sex telling me I have big teeth, but more a telling me than joking tone.

She's been aggressive in public a couple of times. When we pulled up to a McDonald's drive thru for instance and asked for breakfast at 10 am, they said they weren't making anymore unfortunately. My mind was thinking, okay that sucks but we'll find something else. She instead starts berating the person at drive thru and kept saying why they won't make breakfast/called them lazy. Again…some aggressiveness.

I've noticed she's made a lot of statements about men that has been starting to come off a bit sexist due to the tone/generalization.

She's 95% of the time usually extremely nice to me and expresses tons of interest for me. She tells me all the time that she misses me and she sends me text all day (good morning, checking how I'm doing during the day, goodnight ones, etc). I won't lie, my feelings are different recently. I originally thought the passing of my cat was dragging me down a bit, but I think her aggressiveness/causing uncomfortable situations is mentally affecting me. I talked to my father about it (not gonna lie, I only have one long term relationship experience to go by) and he says she's sounds like she's being controlling.

I'm not sure what to do. If she didn't act aggressively towards me, I feel like I'd want a full relationship, but I'm just not sure as of the past couple of weeks. And her not moving us into a full relationship is making me wonder if I should roll the dice on finding someone else because I feel kind of strung along. Just feel really confused and could use some advice from anyone here. We're going on a weekend vacation in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping that will be the final deciding point of how I'm feeling (this is still new so I'm trying to process it), especially if she's negative again.

Honestly up until recently I was all for it - it was just the hesitancy from her end. I'll be honest - I'm a big terrified of ending things with her too. She knows things about me that I really don't want public - she's told me a lot about other people she knows. I was dumb for allowing that trust and I have no idea how to brace for the life altering impact on me if she starts telling people.

My sister brought up concern that maybe she's talking to someone on the side, but I don't have enough proof of that and hate blaming people for things.

Honestly, I'm leaning towards the ending it route. I feel like we might not be compatible. I forgot to mention at the start of the first post - she has mentioned wanting polygamy but hasn't fully explored that yet. Guess that's a warning sign to me too.

Polygamy? She wants to have more than one husband? He probaly meant polyamory but I don't want to assume with Ree.

100% agree on a possible disaster coming up. I was initially interested in it if it was another female, but honestly I'm kind of falling away from her anyway.

She had asked me a lot about what I enjoy sexually, but when it came time for action she had the snap moments. I also notice she switches off from wanting to do my favorite act when I've brought it up, so I guess that's a sign of my needs being ignored too.

I need to work on that - my anxiety has made it difficult to try to land to land dates before I met her.

I felt that spark disappear once the anger started coming out. Yelling and being mean are two things that are mega turnoffs for me.

You don't sound safe in this relationship. That's why you keep freezing as part of the fight/flight/freeze stress response. Especially when you say you're worried about breaking up because she knows things about you that you don't want public. I remember your previous threads, you have had a rough go of it. I really hope you come across someone finally well-adjusted and can communicate appropriately. Develop some self-respect, which therapy can help with if you don't know how to do it by yourself.

From what I remember, SkillUp made two great "sins" that ERA will never forgive him for:

1.) He was critical towards TLOU 2 during a time where any sort of criticism towards that game got you labeled as alt-right. This is also why they finally banned Angry Joe as well.

2.) His brother runs a channel that has thumbnails they deem is rightwing/MAGA friendly, and SkillUp regularly shows up on the channel, so he's guilty by association.

Remember, they spent months leading up to SB's launch saying how they didn't care about the game. That it was rightwing chuds making the game a bigger deal than it was. While there's some truth to that, it is also the truth that they care quite a bit about the game as well, as evidenced by their continued meltdowns because people merely enjoy the game and ignore their screeching and attempts to derail discussion.

They care a hell of a lot about Stella Blade's critical and commercial success.

I think what helps him is he waits to publish the review until he feels he has completed the game or enough to be satisfied. So his reviews are very comprehensive, not surface level rushing through the game.

Speaking honestly, if I was ever put in a room with Sony's head of second party publishing and partnerships, I would absolutely ask him why he thought this game, of all games, was worth pushing in the face of Sony's repeated attempts to push strong, non-sexualized female characters, when there are any number of other independent games they could've invested in instead without this level of insipid misogyny front and center.

I don't think anyone but Sony could give me an answer, and I doubt I'd be satisfied with it even if I got it. So yeah, it's mostly just venting.
