Alright, I'm just gonna say it.

Not a lot of people are going to feel sympathy for a tragedy which is entirely the fault of the arrogance of a class of people who falsely believe they are untouchable geniuses, who are only as high on the totem pole as they are because of rampant exploitation of others and oppressive systems that bake in wealth at the expense of lower classes versus any objective merit of their individual contributions to society. Add on top of the irony that this hubris is part of the reason that the original Titanic sank, and yes, it is amusing in a karmic sort of way.

This isn't 9/11. This isn't drone strikes in the Middle East. This isn't an earthquake, tsunami, or tornado. The Titan sub disaster was a completely preventable accident entirely brought about by the hubris of a man belonging to a class of people deadset on killing the rest of us through ecological collapse and rampant wealth inequality. Let me repeat; these people literally do not give a fuck if we live or die through the hyper capitalism they insist on ramming down our throats even as we can't even afford basic necessities and our planet is dying. And you expect me to hinge my sense of morality and self-worth on whether or not I feel sorry that one of them essentially died by suicide, or whether or not I'm appalled by jokes aimed at the stupidity of the whole thing? I absolutely refuse.

The attempts to swing this around as some failure of compassion on our part, or to try and eulogize this man as some sort of "adventurous hero with a spirit of discovery" or whatever- like we don't already know where the goddamn Titanic is and the state that it's in- instead of the narcissitic asshole he was, ignoring the science and expertise of the people who knew better and were begging him not to go, which ultimately got himself and the rest of the passengers killed in an incident that literally- until that point- had not happened in the history of personal submersibles, because the science and engineering are clear on how this is to be done, are an embarrassing example of how folks can't even practice basic class solidarity with one another. All anger should be directed at the person whose fault this was.

The reason you have a major derogatory mark is because you did not pay your debt and it went long enough to be reported on your credit report as a missed month. This is literally why I hate social media drama so much. It exists for people to stand up on soapboxes and pretend they're doing something real and good when all they're doing is being jerks and assholes. I literally hate how stuff like this, that's really nothing more than an aside on the evening news, turns into this huge thing where people need to grandstand and earn clout. The gamification of our discourse by modern social media has done so much damage to the way we act and speak to each other it isn't even funny.
