Microsoft even before his timeline was already well on their way to being middling software company that executed poorly on the hardware and service sectors. Xbox and Xbox Controllers at one time were the highest quality product the company ever released. But, at some point they decided that Microsoft should shift into being a mostly service company buying other people's offerings with their massive war chest. The worst part is they are TERRIBLE custodians of these bought properties.

The enshitification of Microsoft has been happening for a long time but it missed Xbox through some supernatural miracle. That was until the RROD fiasco with 360. I honestly believe that Peter Moore had to make a deal with the devil to dig Xbox out of that $1 billion dollar hole. Now the rot of Microsoft has fully set into the brand. It's starting to following the same haphazard Microsoft product lifecycle that they've been known for if you've had to deal with Microsoft products in any way sort of semi-professional way. Microsoft proper is about to hack Game Pass out of Xbox using Jason Voorhees level of surgical precision and then try to re-mount the ragged fleshy result on every device they can and still wonder why more people don't want to use it.

When it comes to the games story AC can do whatever it wants has it always been kind of alt history fiction but it gets weird how they're now pumping up the historical figure, seemingly to justify their main character choice.
