Hard disagree on Danny Glover.

I'm ok with the character being a cop and not an Arnold type, but Glover was just a bridge too far. This was three years after he was "getting too old for this shit" in Lethal Weapon. It's just not believable at all that he could beat a Predator.

I, and many people I know, use the word shoes a catch-all term for many (but not all) types of footwear.

Trainers (sneakers for US folks), converse, shoes like brogues with a hard sole etc, I'd refer to them all as shoes. I wouldn't bother being specific to say "pass my trainers" if I was talking about Nike running trainers, I'd just say pass my shoes.

This came up in conversation at work when I said "I bought new shoes" when I meant converse, and everyone said that's crazy, you can't say that.

But everyone I've spoken to who I grew up with all have said it's perfectly fine to use shoes that way.

I think they might be running out of things to talk about.

The difference is that most of this cases the accuser actually went forward, unlike this where it is her partner the one throwing the accusation. Also, your examples are actual high profile people of their respective fields, not some randos from EA.
