Furiosa box office split:

First off, if you didn't watch Furiosa because it has a female lead, you're a fucking clown

but secondly, I find it interesting that despite all this talk about representation etc. it doesn't seem to actually work out in reality and things like genre and tone seem to play a much bigger factor in the gender split than who has the lead role.

I don't think there's anything wrong with passing on it when it's part of a franchise with a specific lead who isn't present here, if you like the series for the stories centered around that lead

you can say "no one cares about max himself" but...I mean here's the box office results, maybe it's reading too much into it to assume that motivation but it's got to contribute

I think it would've done better if it was a standalone story about a woman surviving in the post apocalypse, because being part of the mad max franchise leads people to believe they need context to be able to enjoy it, marvel is partly responsible for nurturing that idea, that you might be lost without knowing the whole cinematic universe

would it be surprising if a zelda game where you play as zelda sells a bit worse than mainline games

might it potentially be a better bet to instead create a game with a female warrior from the ground up

I don't

Yeah I think people figured it's just a spin off they can skip or catch on streaming. Like Hobbs & Shaw and the countless Marvel spin offs.

Plus there seems to be some kind of 'limit' to the number of movies that can hit big, perhaps because folks have less money to spend on this kind of thing or they're just not interested.
DUNE II was the big movie for March/April (especially with the 'extended' run) so there is not going to be another DUNE II like hit, unless the movie goes viral or is really really good.

It seems that the audience is just split over a bunch of movies right now (Planet of the Apes, Furiosa, Garfield, The Fall Guy, Civil War) and Apes is winning out, leaving scraps for everything else.

There is also the fact that Fury Road came out way back in 2015. It takes almost a decade for a follow-up which means the original audience is basically gone.

Quote:There was a subtle change in the flags being flown at San Francisco City Hall last Saturday when a banner that has been there for decades was taken down after becoming a political hot topic.

The "Appeal to Heaven" flag -- which shows a green tree on a white field under the words "AN APPEAL TO HEAVEN" -- dates to the American Revolutionary War. During the war, it was flown by then General George Washington's cruisers and has long been associated with the founding fathers' quest for independents from the British.

However, in modern times the flag has been adopted by far-right extremists. The flag was seen being carried by rioters as they stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C., on January 6th. More recently, the flag was flown outside the New Jersey beach vacation home of conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito last summer, the New York Times reported.

I think it's wild how quick people are nowadays to yield symbols to extremist groups. The flag has been there since the 60s.

All these claims about climate change disproportionately affecting everyone BUT white men are NEVER backed up with any verifiable facts. So forgive me if I describe your ranting as hysterical, sweet cheeks.

The idea is that because the world becomes less safe, it gets worse for the women.
It'll be more difficult for them to survive in harsh conditions and they'll depend on men more. Thus they are more 'affected'.

You can't girl boss your way out of a flood with an Excel sheet or secure food with a clever LinkedIn post Trumps

Again, verifiable evidence is lacking.

Who do you think was more impacted by climate change that lady politician or a male coal miner.

If you really think climate change is really going to kill us in a few years, it seems like a really weird distinction to make. We're all going to be dead, right?

if the world devolves to apocalyptic, chaotic, tribal conditions, I don't envision roving gangs of women raping whatever men they choose

Watched the two videos on the game and, all that aside, I don't get it?

It's trying hard to be overwatch and guardians of the galaxy, with gameplay that's out of every recent big flop, all of which had known properties for a leg up. I had to search out to see who's even making it. It's ex Bungie people who worked on Destiny? They've been working on this since 2021. And since Sony also has Bungie, they're also chipping in on this? It all looks so generic it even has the quirky cutesy robot character.

Free to play after three months. Servers shutting down in under two years. They're gonna pull a Battleborn and promote cgi porno to get anybody interested in it.

I like that all the character seemingly have the same personality.

Should've called the game TwoHearts. A game in which you play the multiple personalities of an absolute retard. They'd have an audience of at least the 10 active users of theBire. That's enough to keep the 5v5 running.

I assumed it was a F2P game from the off given its going head to head with (probably better, definitely more established) Valorant and Overwatch 2, not to mention Deadlock incoming from Valve (which isn't even announced and has more playable heroes available) but if they're charging full whack for this its DOA on every platform.

I mean, fuck, visually it looks worse than Evolve which was DOA a decade ago
