Please add the men loving men Pride flag to the rotating Pride flag site logos. It’s a major omission. The Progressive Rainbow flag represents the entire LGBTQIA+ community, so it’s not meant to be a stand in for the flag representing male same sex attraction.

I think there's a general lack of acceptance of this flag in the gay community, partially because most people don't know it exists (it was invented on Tumblr in 2019) and partially because the colour temperature has been dialled down so much on every stripe that it looks cold and minimalist, which is the exact opposite of the camp party stylings of gay men at pride events. It feels like it was designed by people who don't like gay men or pride, but are big fans of bathrooms and toothpaste.

I love the colors. Blue is beautiful.

I don’t think it’s a lack of acceptance, it’s a lack of knowledge. Many people falsely assume that the rainbow flag is the default for queer men.

Anyway, we need it represented on ERA.

I said nothing about the colours themselves; I was speaking to the temperature of the colours.
Green is my favourite colour, but not these minty shades that have had all warmth and saturation extracted from them. There's something oddly heteronormative about removing warmth from a flag that should represent men.

For the record, I also like blue, and the blue version in your avatar is really nice, but it's from an older version of the flag which has since been replaced with the version you linked, which leans more into indigo.
(I really like the blue version, especially the second stripe from the bottom, which doesn't have the desaturation issues I'm complaining about.)


This is not a false assumption, this is a description of the current reality. I'm 100% on board with introducing a flag to represent MLM specifically, but we can't just invent one and then immediately act like it's the default and an entire community is wrong for using the flag they've felt represented by for 40 years.


For the record, I'm just speaking to why it was probably omitted, which is that a) it's recent, and most of the community doesn't know about it, and b) its acceptance level is low among those that do, especially when compared to the rainbow.

I personally don't feel represented by the flag because I think it's a poor reflection of the community, and its introduction feels arbitrary and prescriptive, but I fully support adding it if people do feel represented by it.

If you don’t feel represented by it, then don’t use it for yourself. It’s important to have it here because it’s not appropriate to have the Progress Rainbow flag be a stand-in for male same sex attraction. The Rainbow flag is for everyone, and that of course is evident by how it had been changed over the years to make it more inclusive.  By that same standard, queer men deserve to have their own flag for specific representation, like the rest already featured on the site.

This isn’t the place to litigate the flag itself. If it changes in the future, then it should be be changed here too, as the Rainbow flag has in the past. As for now, it is the flag for mlm, and it needs to be featured here.

To make one thing very clear. We didn't omit it out of spite or anything like that.
The powers that be are working on creating it and getting it added.

It's the sort of thing that pops up when there is a criminal that happens to be trans in the news: dead-naming and saying that people like that don't deserve to be treated as their preferred gender, etc. Naturally the individual is typically unlikeable because they have committed some crime, but does that make it any less bad?

Even without the crime aspect, my mother-in-law (UK) has a trans niece that she will refuse to acknowledge as female because of a drug addiction and some other stuff she doesn't like. She literally stifles a laugh every time she has to say the niece's actual name, but usually just dead-names her instead when talking about her.

Is it a dog whistle hiding behind justified anger at someone? How do you argue the gender aspect of the situation without getting labelled "pro-crime" or something like that?

Its based off negativity. When a person has done something seen as heinous in society or among us their peers, people will drop their inhibitors and will say stuff that they believe belittles or de-maculate/feminize that person.

We have a thing/saying in the UK and it's pretty funny but sad at the same time. An Englishman would probably his follow Englishman a "C*nt", but when it's a Black person, he's mostly like add the word "Black" in front of it.
