The benevolent Islamic colonialism strikes again!  Weird.  This article conveniently leaves out that Jews were considered dhimmi status under Islamic law and were subject to jizya taxes and were required to wear distinctive clothing and had other legal restrictions.   Doesn't mention any of the persecution under their rule, like during the Almohad dynasty in North Africa and Spain during 12th-13th centuries, Jews faced forced conversions and expulsions if they didn't get the shit kicked out of them first.   The flourishing of Jewish culture was despite Muslim rule, not because of it - there was not a consistent, positive relationship between Jews and Muslims across the entire Islamic world - The treatment of Jews varied greatly depending on the time, place, and ruling authority - and Islam certainly didn't prioritize their well-being.  The only consistent, if anything, was that Jewish communities were resilient and adaptable in the face of these people.  I hate these hypocrites so much.  Colonialism is bad until brown people do it, then it's this flourishing of civilization.  Lying weasels.

To be clear, Dustborn’s setting in no way reflects the horrors of Nazi Germany. The problem is that it might think it does. There are references to book-burning, people talking about “the fight”, but it never really culminates in anything substantial. A lot of ideas are fighting for real estate – robots, a near-apocalyptic event, the dangers of totalitarianism – with nothing getting the space it deserves.
