I'm curious if I'm the only person who does this sometimes. Every so often, there's a series that I try really hard to make sure I support financially (by buying new releases at launch), and then for whatever reason or another I wind up either not playing the game at all or bouncing off of it very quickly.

The preeminent example for me is SaGa games. I've been playing SaGa since the original Game Boy games (Final Fantasy Legend III/SaGa 3 was my first portable RPG) and I've bought every new release in the series that's come out in the West since SaGa Frontier (with one exception that will surprise no one), but I can count on one hand the games I've actually genuinely finished.

• SaGa II (GB): Finished
  
• Romancing SaGa 2 (SNES): Played for a few hours, lost all the characters I liked, stopped playing
  
• Romancing SaGa 3 (SNES): Finished Julian's route
  
• SaGa Frontier (PS1): Finished all routes
  
• SaGa Frontier 2 (PS1): Finished, though my lack of understanding of the scenario system resulted in me getting rushed to the endgame early and missing half of the content
  
• there was a game here. it's gone now
  
• Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song (PS2): Finished Gray's route
  
• Romancing SaGa 2 (iOS): Bought, played for two hours
  
• Romancing Saga 3 (Switch): Bought, played for a few hours, confirmed it's the same game I beat in the 90s, moved on
  
• SaGa Scarlet Grace (iOS): Bought, played for three hours, recommended to like 30 people, never actually went back to it
  
• SaGa Frontier Remastered (Switch): Same as RS3 Switch
  
• Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered (Steam): Bought, played for five hours in Albert's storyline, maneuvered myself into an unwinnable sequence, stopped playing
  
• Romancing SaGa ReUniverse: Gacha game, played for a few years, fell off after a while since I wasn't really engaged
  
• SaGa Emerald Beyond (Steam): Played the demo, preordered, played for four hours, got distracted, have not gone back to it
  

And I will almost definitely buy the RS2 remake when it comes out later this year, because apparently this is just what I do now.

So what other franchises are out there that you keep showing up for but rarely if ever actually finish?

Dear everyone: even if you think you hate baseball/sports games in general, install MLB The Show and just play through the Negro Leagues content. It's an incredibly well crafted labor of love, and it's not just about baseball, it's American history. The actual gameplay segments in that content are pretty low difficulty level, and they're interspersed between storytelling segments that are absolutely worth your time.
