Ironically is not much different than a lot of people said before but ERA got triggered regardless because “toxic culture”.

the game wasn't around long enough to respond to player feedback. there was a beta that required preorders to access (at first). the game launched a month later. then it was taken offline two weeks later.

Honestly, I think it's reprehensible to give more surface to far right talking points. So no I shouldn't watch it, it’s not automatically earned.

I don't think OP's description really helps because quite frankly being more agile and listening more to user feedback has been repeated so much in product management over the past 15 years that it's a platitude. Particularly when from the looks of it, that game's problem isn't so much feedback that no one gave a shit or even knew that it existed.

Reading this I expected the thumbnail to be some photoshopped exaggeration of the character models or maybe some red arrow with UGLY written on it, instead it's just the fat guy with his blue coat. If a direct screenshot from the game is "courting Chuds" then maybe that's a you problem

As usual ResetEra has no idea how game development works. The costs of Concord aren't just the wages of developers. 

First, there is the acquisition, which at the time they bought it couldn't have been cheap. Once Sony bought it, they also had to pay for all the operating expenses. So we're talking rent (most studios are in expensive city centers), electricity, water and everything else. Everyone needs multiple work stations, meaning a powerful PC and a bunch of PS5 devkits (although sometimes these are shared). If they WFH that also means company laptops. In addition they need network infrastructure, servers and everything else for the backend. These companies usually offer great perks for employees and soy milk ain't cheap either. Neither are software licenses, enterprise software is expensive.

Finally there is the distribution of the game. There is a physical version and they expected a big hit. Shipments aren't as high as they used to be but even if they just allocate 10k units to 50 markets, that's 500k copies that had to be produced, shipped and delivered. However, I imagine for a Sony first party game that number is closer to at least a million units (500k US, 300k UK/EU, 200k AU/MEA).

There is a whole lot of different expenses and it adds up over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if that $250 million is a low estimate and they were already knee deep in preproduction for new Seasons/DLC and possibly sequels. I bet Sony's financial staff is currently working hard to find a way to make this 'look good' in the books without having to do a $300 - $500 million write off for not just the development but the predicted revenue too.

It's a phemonenal performance, and her success is very well deserved. She had to cancel a couple shows to make this work, which sucks for those fans, but they'll get over it. Acting like it's a huge slap in the face to fans to be on the wrong side of a scheduling conflict is a little over dramatic, and a stark reminder of how a celebrity essentially needs to be flawless in order to avoid instantaneous "fuck off, Chappell" attitude.

They're so incredibly sensitive when it comes to this lady, it's amazing. From what I can tell she got a fraction of a fraction of criticism on RE and they're acting like it's the end of the world. Also, is a lesbian pop star really that unique?

Also the concept of "male gaze" keeps confusing me. Girl went on the red carpet with her titties out and her armor had boob plates and basically a metal thong, exactly the kind of things the burka thread would flip their shit about.

It would be nice if people in this thread would stop using "queer woman" when she's been adamant about identifying as (specifically) a lesbian, and she likes the word. not that we are not queer women, but seeing our invisibility in general and name calling as a porn category, it would sure be great for others to help us push against that by using the word we use to define ourselves.

In regards to the performance: I really enjoyed it, I thought the choreo by the dancers was a tad campy and a bit fight choreo from Excalibur (a very old movie) so it eas very enjoyable.

About the concerts, I'm the first one to defend the people who have lost their tickets and that close to the concert happening, because it sucks and people shouldn', in my opinion, dismiss their feelings about it, but she doesn't deserve to be name called and I think it's clear at this point that the tour venues don't fit her current popularity. I hope she comes to Europe again and I can finally see her lol

I do hope Roan isn't talked about much here in Era though. I don't think this board's audience is the type of place where I'm comfortable talking about queer artists like her or Renee Rapp.

That may be true for some, I can't speak for everyone, but I think it's more likely that people are a little more emotionally driven over this game because of the way it's been used so heavily in the culture wars.

Chuds have been celebrating this as evidence of "go woke, go broke", so I find myself having to bite my tongue and just ignore a lot of the Concord discourse. I'd have a few choice words for the choice of thumbnail in that video, for example. I don't care if "everyone uses clickbait", I don't have to respect someone contributing to the problem.

It's hard to tell who's genuinely interested in the intricacies behind why this game failed, and those with bad faith arguments who just want to pile on at any opportunity they get because it fits their narrative on either a) why live service games are bad or b) why any kind of inclusive character design is bad. Hence why discourse on this game gets so messy so fast, imo.
