Whether this is a positive or negative is debatable. Horizon felt like young adult fiction. Like Hunger Games or Divergence or any number of those that were popular in the previous decade. The Fifth Wave. The Hundred. Nothing about the worlds made a whole lot of sense. Somebody comes up with a gimmicky sci fi idea and a young ordinary woman (who secretly isn’t ordinary. A twist!) rebelling against their parents  the evil totalitarian system.

I know it came out next to Zelda BOTW in 2017. At the time there was a lot of  PlayStation™ Fan Discussing Their Fine Products . But it makes sense to latch onto the storytelling of its time.

Holy shit, Angie kept updating the CCU every hour til it finally hit 30k  PlayStation™ Fan Discussing Their Fine Products

Yeah Taco, you're right! This is so fucking pathetic! And Angie is being encouraged for it too. She's literally posting every 15-30 minutes:

Sony-Ponies when a Sony game has a little bit of success:

Sony stans are always bragging about Horizon 1 selling 23 million as if 23 million people bought it online or in the stores specifically. I wouldn't even be surprised if sony counted the amount of people who redeeemed it after all the free giveaways to boost the sales.

They always forget the fact that the game was bundled so much thats why it sold that many. Or they forget that Breath of the Wild completely destroyed and overshadowed the game which is no one but their die-hard stans ever remember the game.
The game sold well but the real success of horizon seems to be that decima engine, which is a legit banger and presumably the reason why Hulst is fuhrer now. They seem fairly capable of getting games out on schedule with good tech.  The games are just a bit meh.

That's how I got around to playing it. On PS5 with the 60 FPS patch.

It's a solid and enjoyable time. In a "what if somebody made a good Ubisoft game" sort of way. Come to think of it, that's how I'd describe Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima, as well.
Am I the only one who felt that Zelda Switch was nothing but grade A Nintendo slop that fanboys ate up happily? Horizon to me was how you mix combat, with traversal without dumb meters, and let’s face probably the dumbest way you implement physics. Garbage game, with a garbage cartoon world, and 100% garbage fans. Nintendo rewarded once again by unnecessary childhood memories.

Nah horizon sucked ass, retarded franchise and guerilla games is waste of time/money. Should go back to killzone

Well today, this thread was posted where Gene Park finds it odd that franchises keep re-inventing themselves with every sequel:

Idiot, don't engage  lol Just ignore.

Absolutely NO ONE is a friend of ResetEra. Haven't they realised that not a single, even mildly, important individual from within the Games Industry posts there anymore?

Because every single person is just one misunderstood comment away from being cancelled, hated and having Era trying to destroy their reputation, livelihood and life.

Gene even touches on this early in the exchange:

genepark wrote:I hate to do this but I just fundamentally disagree with painting certain people with certain views just because they said one offhand comment several years ago that was ignorant at worst.

Iluminating the laughably flawed ideological throughline of these histrionic freaks while calmly and politely refusing to be baited; the sizzle is still fresh.

And just a random aside: when did the more militant posters in the BCT decide it was probably a good idea to back off the "model minority" verbiage? Was it before the Summer of Knuckles a few years back?
I'm not really impressed by the "launch" player count of God of War Ragnarok. Considering it was the "Game of the Year" and one of the biggest Sony first party franchises.

Launch is usually the "peak" for these type of games and it sits at rank 55 today and at rank 475 overall on SteamDB.
It sold about ~50k copies at best. Something like Dragons Dogma dropped in at a peak of 225k players.
The first God of War had 75k players at launch, so this is less than half that number. Even if it goes up to 50k players this weekend that's still only 2/3 of the previous game.

Reviews are mixed too because the game is choppy past the opening.

Sure $60 x 50k = $3 million in revenue but I doubt that even covers the development cost of the port.

If I dunno, some niche JRPG or platformer sold 50k copies on day 1 on Steam I'd be impressed. If God of War does that, I'm like aren't these games supposed to be million sellers?
 I don't

I could see a concept where you pick "I'm a toddler" and the game is then set up for that target group, but all those seperate settings with its dozen of microdecissions to try and pander to each individual taste makes me feel like the Devs are simply defined by their own insecurities.
Quite a disapointment.

Calling Astro Bot Soulless or Cynical when it's one of the most inventive, passionate and lively games of the year... But no I'm sure it was the heartless moneybot suited execs at Sony standing behind Asobi insisting they make a *checks Notes* Loco Roco stage.

Some people are utterly joyless and these takes degrade the entire hobby / industry. Imagine saying this about the Smash Ultimate Spirits on release

Cry more, sfag

I wish that there was a way for Valve to face actual, tangible consequences as a company for the way they just endorse nazis and nazism like they do, with how they defend bigoted bullshit on their forums. And on their store too, with them having the fucking Alex Jones game on there.

The latest game I bought on PC was Nine Sols and I bought it direct from Red Candle through their own shop. The copy of the game was a Steam Key. I wish it was a DRM-free copy like World Of Goo 2 lets you buy from them. I despise how Steam Keys also create customer lock-in.

But yeah: There are other places you can go to support devs and pubs that aren't nazi shitholes like Steam and Valve.

Bitch is crazy.

Nostalgia and references to other PlayStation characters/dressing up Astro Bot as those characters IS the character though.

Game is a joy to play. Actually agree with quite a few Era posters that if even this game makes you this cynical, time to find a new hobby and job.

It’s ok to turn off the cynicism and actually just enjoy something in a world otherwise increasingly going to hell. And the constant “corpos are bad!” shit, yes we know. I’ve watched and loved Mr. Robot too, but again, it’s ok to turn off the cynicism once in awhile.
I didn’t realize I was on the Famiboards. I apologize for buzzing outside the hive mind.
With how suspicious looking that avatar looked, I decided to google Ash_Greytree out of curiosity.

And yeah, according to a site named Pillowfort, he's a fucking furry coomer. Profile states he's 30 year old bisexual man with he/him pronouns.

He posts straight and hardcore gay furry porn. I saw big furry boobs with LGBT pride flags, nude gay furries with enormous cocks, and I saw Jax from The Amazing Digital Circus with his erect dick out. 🤢

It's funny to see this conversation happening right alongside the launch of Astro Bot.

That's a game that introduces new mechanics almost every level and has almost 0 text of any kind. This is a solved problem.

I've got a kid, and it frustrates me when so many cutesy "kid-oriented" games completely miss such an obvious mark: they're clearly made by people who don't have kids and don't interact with kids. Just get to the fucking point: some of your audience can't even read, and those that can read don't care how clever a wordsmith you wasted money on.

Spoiler:  (click to show)
I'm bummed that Plucky Squire turned out to be one of these since I was actively looking forward to it and the trailers seemed blissfully textbox free.
