No matter how many quotations marks and clarifications, you don’t get relevant results. Let alone useful information.

I think part of this is due to how good informative websites made by obsessed fans just for the joy of it have been dropping like flies and/or hidden due to bad SEO

some guy made "mike's page of north american songbirds" 20 years ago but he never put up ads so google had no reason to funnel people to his site, which wasn't heavily trafficked anyway, and now he's dead and his family have no interest and no idea in sustaining that little website full of great information

now you end up on some ad-infested hellhole that just copied all its info from wikipedia anyway

There's also been a bunch of legal bullshittery (eg the FairSearch cuntopoly) where various parasitic businesses whose entire business plan was 'be a middleman website and get a cut off of directing people to the websites actually providing the thing people are actually looking for' that have endlessly manipulated SEO, lobbied governments and complained they dont show up in searches as early as they think they should (ie before the sites their revenue stream consists of directing other people to for a cut).

my favorite is how they tease you with certain options these days.

One day, results look this
Quote:Missing: songbirds ‎| Show results with: songbirds

The next day, results look like this.
Quote:Missing: songbirds

Ok...and on the third day???
Quote:Missing: songbirds ‎| Show results with: songbirds

Do you want to switch to Chrome? This entirely remote service is arbitrarily improved by your local software configuration.
Reminder: Search is better when you log in! Who doesn't wish the encyclopedia of all human knowledge selectively tailored its results to a caricature of you?

Their deal with Reddit is the icing on the shitcake.
Especially because clicking a reddit link also opens the app.

So you click a link in Google and Reddit first opens what you were last looking at on Reddit at 2AM  Yeshrug
EU nonsense also made it less useful. Maps and Google Search are no longer integrated because of EU regulations.

It's going to get worse though. Had a call with Google this week and their guy told me they are removing Enhanced CPCs as a bidding strategy and their recommendation is to set it to Maximum Clicks instead. Which means that we'll see a lot more ads.

New kindle models, including a colour screen model.

I refuse to update until they bring physical page turn buttons back.

Oh man, I didn’t realise they’d killed off the Oasis. Used ones are over £400 on Amazon lol

I’m interested to see the colour one in action, but the only time I’d see colour is on the lock screen and when browsing my library. An iPad is a better option for comics.

not sure that's a good thing

it might be more beneficial for the tech overall if trump just didn't fucking think about it ever and let things keep trucking along as they are

a) if he crows about it he makes it something dems must knee jerk oppose at all costs including even casual individuals, "if trump likes AI then I hate it"

b) makes it more likely it would be something undone in the next presidency, with a new law or executive order possibly even worse than biden's measured order

c) if he's got his eye on it he's more likely to fuck with it, someone makes an anti trump deepfake meme and now he's frothing and demanding tough laws on AI misuse

It's definitely not a good thing.

I don’t think Kamala would’ve done anything different for AI.

A Harris administration would have brought on tech savy people to determine AI regulations.

trump is probably gonna get fsd to write regulations.
