They know Irans military is further behind the times than it was back in the 80s when we sunk half of their navy in a few hours, right? I often see people talking up the Iranian Air Force but it’s so far behind at this point 

When people talk about their “air superiority” they are talking about F-4s lol, F-5s LOL, first gen  F-14s that are most likely in substantial disrepair, and a handful of MiG 29s (the only capable fighter in their lineup). Add to that constant sanctions that would prohibit them being able to purchase parts for 75% of their Air Force, it’s pretty well understood that any American aircraft they are still flying haven’t been properly maintained for some time. 

Sure, Iran had a pretty banging lineup in the 80s and 90s with those 14s and 29s but those would get wiped by a squadron of modern F-16s, F-18s and F-15s. Not even worth bringing up the F-35s and F-22s out there.
