I have members of my family who had to experience living under a brutal dictatorship for many, many years. Yet, they still managed to survive and even thrive. They found pockets of happiness and were able to build meaningful lives. Lives in which they were able to form beautiful bonds and help others around them.

Some of the most transformative art in human history has come out of world-ending events.

There is always goodness in people. I believe, more good than bad. As they say, be kind to people and ruthless to systems.

Like when I was in middle school, I was suicidal for four straight years. I was bullied, CONSTANTLY, and every single attempt I made to fix the situation by going to the authorities at my school was met with indifference, or in one case, the vice principal saying "they're so cute at this age, aren't they" when I made a literal timeline list of my average day, with the exact places I went to avoid being harassed or attacked by my peers. 

The people who were supposed to protect me laughed in my face when I pointed out I had literally been stabbed by one of my classmates, even after my science teacher saw it happen and reported it to the principal himself. My first kiss was sexual assault, one of my classmates literally pranking me so she could laugh about it with her friends right in the middle of class.

Combine that with crippling body dysmorphia and multiple sexual assaults on my person during my teenage years and I also developed an immediate suspicion whenever anyone flirted with me, believing it had to be non-genuine.

Figuring out I'm demi shortly after that only made it all click together even more.
